That delay doesn’t sound typical of Otterbein . . . definitely check SPAM folder and then call. Fifteen days seems long, but things may have changed this year. There were staffing changes last year in the area of auditions, but it didn’t seem to effect folks last year.

GMail can be glitchy . . . my daughter never received the initial email and we found out accidentally that she passed the prescreen.

Thanks everyone and same to you guys AsstToTheMT! One more small step completed!

He left a message for Harriet Hill at Otterbein…then promptly went to learn a new Pas De Deux for the group he’s in so won’t be able to pick up should she call back LOL! I checked spam folder, nothing I can see.

As for Otterbein, I would email Harriet as well. She was responsive in a few email exchanges…I think email might be easier. And by the way, if your doing unifieds, the
audition is only about 15min long max she said.

D got a yes for Texas State- think we are going to go to the on campus aud- if anyone knows anything about auditioning on campus, would love any tips-

Heard from Pace today…didn’t pass the pre-screen.

Not really a surprise, as my son is more a “classical” singer, and we’ve heard Pace is more “pop/rock.”

Pace was new to his list…he visited only 3 weeks ago. So-- last on/first off!

Anyway. I’m hoping that him not passing this pre-screen will “wake him up a bit.” He’s a big fish in a small pond here and things have come easily to him. This might be a good thing in the long run.

Sorry to hear that SU88BFA and I agree with the “classic vs pop” at PACE. My S is also a very classic guy, baritone, Gene Kelly is his hero, his dream role is Finch from How to Succeed. As soon as I watched PACE’s showcase on youtube I thought hmmm thinking he isn’t going to fit there. They all seemed very contemporary. I thought about having him submit a prescreen just to see what would happen but then I saw it was $75 for app $75 for prescreen and he didn’t seem interested in the school enough to blow $150 “just to see”.

One thing that was really good for my S was community theatre, I’m especially glad he did it now. He quickly realized how much “type” matters. He was recently in Cabaret and even though he is a better singer than the guy who played Cliff, he was waay too young for the cast. So it made a lot of sense to him how “fit” comes into play, it doesn’t mean you aren’t talented just means you aren’t a good fit.

SU88BFA DO NOT be discouraged! This is such a subjective mystery land and we may never know the answers to any of this. My D worked with a very respected director in our county. The first thing he said to her was “I don’t care how talented you are, be prepared for rejection over and over. Not because you are not talented, but because there are reasons you will not be picked for a part and could be because you are too tall or too short or too mature looking or too young or tooo or blah blah blah and he said you can think a million things, but you may never know. The most important thing is to BELIEVE in yourself and YOUR unique talent and forge forward.”

theaterlvr-- to answer your Q-- I live in SE VA.

RE: Pace rejection-- We are not discouraged! I don’t even think he was too disappointed (at least he didn’t show it.) My son’s monologue coach told him not to apply, because of the difference in “type”-- but S really liked the school when he visited and wanted to give it a shot. After thinking about it a little more, I’m actually secretly glad he got the rejection now so early. My son has a big head-- Yes, he’s talented-- but he doesn’t push himself as hard as his father and I think he should be pushing himself at this point in the game. We’re hoping this will be a wake-up call for him, as his first on-campus audition is in 2 weeks. (Uh…hello???)

Talking about Cabaret— S’s HS is doing it in the spring. Son is shooting for the Emcee (and pretty much has been told by director that the part is his.) He’s so excited to get out of his comfort-zone with a role. He’s always been the tall, romantic lead type.

Good for him. My S loves that character! I love Cabaret! I still find myself humming “Life is a cabaret ol chum” and the show closed weeks ago LOL. My S was cast as the young kid who sang “Tomorrow Belongs to Me”, they had to lower it quite a bit for him but I saw a lot of people tearing up in the theatre so the message was received. He also was a waiter, sailor and danced a lot LOL. He is very sorry he didn’t do more community theatre over the years, he truly loved it. Waaaay off topic now…

He didn’t hear back yet from Otterbein. I think I will email her today, now I’m a bit concerned the application wasn’t received or something is missing. Everyone has indicated results were in by the 2 week mark.

Rats…I think Otterbein called my cell back yesterday. I didn’t hear my phone, didn’t recognize the missed call number and didn’t get a message so I didn’t think about it until just now when the area code sounded familiar. This stuff really only happens to us I swear LOL. So my S emailed Ms. Hill. And then his mom is going to get a prescription for something good to calm her down because this is only going to get worse LOL

False alarm on those calls. I scrolled through my missed calls and noticed I had a call from that number a few times so I called it back. It was the general admissions office calling re: his application. He sent SATS scores and his GC sent transcripts to Otterbein, never thinking they don’t need any of that until after the prescreen ruling. So…in any event she said there wasn’t ruling yet and he would likely hear by Monday.

Important to note to count business days versus calendar days on certain rulings…cause this dummy didn’t!

We, too, live is SE VA SU88BFA. Hope you and your S enjoy this journey. Seems daunting for all of you now, but there IS a light at the end of this scary and exciting tunnel, and before you know it, they will be on their way.

So…ummm…hi everyone…me again. After all of that S just received an email he’s been invited to the live audition at Otterbein! So excited for him.

If I ever get this crazy again remind me to stay out of his business. (I know GSOMTMOM will but I made need more of you to jump in)!!!

MTMajor congrats on your son’s yes from Otterbein!

D just got her email from Ithaca tonight and it’s a YES and her requested December 7 audition date scheduled. Happy, happy, happy daughter, great news to start homecoming weekend!
