I'm a rising junior and out local community college is offering a pre cal class. My friends have taken it before and said it wasn't too bad. I have already missed the first three classes because of scheduling conflicts. I am really stuck between taking it and possibly getting a C or lower or just not even worry about and go to tennis camp or whatnot. Should I take it and get ahead or not? Please respond thoughtfully! Thanks so much!

If ur really good at tennis (recruitable) then tennis for sure. If not then probably precalc.

what’s the point of taking precal at a community college? Won’t your high school have it?

I guess if (s)he takes pre-calc over the summer then (s)he would be able to take Calc in the fall as a junior.

In terms of admissions for top tier schools: Varsity Sports are typical not worth the time spent on time unless you are captain, or have numerous awards, or are a recruit.

I play all year and do tournaments. and Douglasgirl is right

This concerns me, because you say that you are probably resigned to getting a C on it.

However, if you are fine with the C and just want to jump into Calculus in the fall, by all means, do it – I recommend getting at least a year of Calc down in high school to leave your options open when you are in college. You can always hit your summer before senior year.

I want to go to UVA, Chicago, UPenn, or NYU. I have a chance me on here somewhere. Would this look good or should I just stick to tennis and okay all year like I already do.

I checked out your chance thread. . .

Did you already indeed take AP Calc BC? Or is that your projected course in the near future?

Tennis.

Not worth risking a C.

At all.

Thanks for all the help everyone. And yes, that is my projected course in the near future. I may have to update it.

Wait, here’s the important question. If you take Pre-Calc, can you still do tennis for your junior year without missing a significant amount of meetings? (As in like 2-3+ months) Can you still tennis for the year?

And if you get a C in Pre-Calc (let’s say you take the class) does it go on your transcript?
