ummm did anyone else get screwed into taking precalc 1st semester or is it only me? According to the advisers Johnson hasnt made any exceptions so its not looking to good..

Also, a question for any current sternies or upperclassmen..

I am seriously considering taking Calculus over the summmer at a local community college and transferring the credits to Stern. I'm just so confused whether or not its worth it, if I take precalc I would take that first semester then take Calc 1 2nd semester, therefore I won't be able to take stern classes til sophmore year. I haven't been able to reach any advisers since they have been out of the office at orientation.

I'm really confused and any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I'm a current student at Stern. Well, I'm pretty sure pre-calculus is not a requirement at Stern. However, it is a prerequisite for Calculus. For the class of 2009, we needed to take at least one math course: Calculus I, Calculus II, Calculus III, or Linear Algebra.
To take any course other than Calc I, you need proof that you have taken the prerequisites classes but you are only required to take any one math course.

Regarding your consideration for taking Calculus over the summer, that is definitely a mistake. Stern WILL NOT accept your credit. Beginning for the class of 2009, Stern does not accept any transfer math credits. There is no way to get out of the math requirement. I was very disappointed by this when I started school last year because I was prepared to transfer 14 math credits that I took at local universities.

I would also recommend searching the Stern undergraduate website because all this information can be found there.

dylin88 - I'm not sure why you would want to take something higher than linear algebra if you won't be minoring in mathematics. There are other classes that you can take as electives but those four math classes are the only ones you can use to fulfill your math requirement. If you have already taken those four, you are probably not alone. Many students will just take a math class they have already taken (such as Calc I).

Yo, there may or may not be an email about this, but they changed the minimum requirements for calc1 to 650 on the math sectin of the SATs, this may change things for many people.
