I'm a junior currently taking Alg II w/ Trig.
Will my college admission gets effected if I take precalc in senior. I live in N.CA and I will be applying to UCs. Do I need to finish Calc by senior year. I'm not interested in Engg or math major. If I need to get into Calc in senior yr, then I need to take PreCalc in summer. please advise me.

if you have a basic understanding of trig, and your algebra concepts are solid you might want to try taking calculus without pre-calc.

taking precal your senior year is normal. if you're not interested in math/engineering/science, then don't feel obliged to take calculus. just focus on algebra and trig and have a solid understanding of it and you'll be fine in college. this is someone speaking as a CA resident who knows what UCs want, and thats a solid algebra and trig background. if you can do calc, then that's great, but it isn't necessary if you're not going into some sort of related field.

People forget pre-calc as a senior is normal! That's why they OFFER calculus as an intro course in college. What're you majoring in?

Thanks a lot for all the replies.
I'm interested in PreMed.
I wanted to try Calc in Senior year but I'm afraid I may not do well w/out precalc.

Oh. Well, either way, med schools require calculus. It'll probably benefit you to take it in college, but with a background in a structured high school class the concepts should be easier to understand. Plus it would make physics in college easier, since there it'll probably be calculus-based.

Take PreCal then. You'd probably end up having to retake Calc again in college if you take it now.

You definitely can't take Calc BC without a solid foundation in Precalc, which will definitely take more than a summer. If you take AB, you end up having to retake the course. So just take Precalc sr year.
