@whiterwalt7 Very good. I’d also recommend trying for the 36 on your ACT–it just sets you apart.
^no it doesn’t. once they see a score that’s as high as OP’s, a 36 doesn’t change anything. In fact, trying again when you’ve got such a high score could raise a red flag of “wrong priorities” (ie., “wants a high score, not education” - because standardized tests aren’t learning/education.)
Thanks for all the advice guys! My Econ research team lost in this competition, but it still was my favorite EC. Since we lost and since I only did this for one year, how big should I make it in my app?
Well, won’t you keep doing it next year? Did you place or did you rank, like, 19 out of 20 teams?
We were in the top 25%, so obviously not bad. And I definitely will do it next year. But how big should I make this EC in my application though, since I’ve achieved higher honors in other ones (e.g. Piano and DECA)
You will have about 10 “spots”. You can make Piano and DECA 1st and 2nd if they’re stronger and relate to your academic interests, and rank this below. If you need to elaborate, use “additional information”.
A little update for you all:
DECA international top 10 winner, DECA international test award, role play (presentation) award, and finalist
Wow, congratulations Definitely put DECA in yourtop 2-3 activities!!!
I’m guessing your counselor said that because of the fact that some schools, especially those you have listed, really want higher ACT scores. But honestly I think your SAT scores are pretty damn good. You honestly should be good. So I would personally agree with your counselor. Continue your academic rigor. Good luck!
Thanks for all the advice! Any new takers? Also, if i submit more than the required # of subject tests, would that make it anymore impressive or naw?
Only if they represent intellectual curiosity/versatility and mastery (ie., high scores in math, science, foreign language, and history is better than high scores in all three sciences + math).
I think you’re a competitive candidate for all the schools you’re applying to, and will get into 50+% of them. Then I think you should go to wherever you get the most money. Find one thing you love more than the rest and write your essays on that.

Honestly its hard to say with many of these schools, but based on your scores and GPA I’d say you have a shot at just about anywhere. Good Luck!
