As of now, I’m still pretty sure I’m applying to Stanford ea, even though the ea boost for Harvard seems to be much greater. I just feel like I will be a better fit at an institution like Stanford, I think I identify with their philosophy more. Thanks for the advice!

What do you think my chances at merit aid at Michigan would be, including the fact that I’m in state? I’m not too familiar with that process.

@jonthom99, I really think you are so impressive already! I think all your activities, scores, and grades are very impressive, but schools such as Harvard, MIT, Princeton, and Stanford are very hard to predict the outcome for. I think they’re looking for something unique in the members of their admitted class. But, you seem to have done everything right, so I’m not sure what more you could do. I would say, write a great essay, and keep working hard!

Without any extensive computer science experience, Carnegie Mellon’s SCS school is a huge reach, and I feel like MIT looks for a lot more concentrated passion than you display through your extra-curriculars. With your wide-ranging activities, Stanford, Harvard, and Princeton are more likely to accept you, I think. Everything else is a match or below.

Stanford (REA) Rejected
Michigan (EA) Accepted (probably a good chance of merit, my friends with less credentials got merit )
MSU Accepted (with merit aid from the PA program, since I’m assuming it would be honors college!)
Harvard Waitlisted
MIT Rejected
Princeton Rejected
Duke Accepted
Carnegie Mellon Accepted

Ultimately it will come down to the essays I think. Since these are predictions, I think it’s safer for me to assume most rejections to the ivies, but hopefully since you’re applying to 4 very top schools, you’ll get into at least one!

@cloudeleven This is a stretch, but do you think that listing that I was voted one of 6 seniors for homecoming court be enough to show that I am a people person and outgoing? Should I mention that somewhere, or have a teacher mention it in the rec letter? Or is that too informal? Thanks!

Hmm, this is a random guess… but i’m going to say…

MIT… accepted
stanford…
Michigan… easily accepted
Duke…accepted
Carnegie… accepted
MSU… lol are you really even asking this?
Stanford… im not sure
Harvard… rejected
princeton… reejcted

Stanford REA - Accepted
U Mich - Accepted (with ease)
MSU - Accepted (why are you even applying here? safety?
Harvard - Accepted (play up your musicality and leadership)
MIT - Accepted
Princeton - Accepted
Duke - Accepted
Carnegie Mellon - Accepted

Play up your musicality and leadership positions in the application and you should be good.

@Alec43 Thanks, chanced back. Yeah, if I end up getting into Michigan, I probably won’t even apply to State, but yes, I was using it as a safety. Thanks for the input!

@MathNScience Haha, we’ll find out! I’m usually a lot better when I have time to write and review my essays though, so they should be better than whatever I put down on those standardized tests. Fingers crossed!
