Premed and Chemistry

Hi, so I'm going to be a BE major at UPenn next year and am thinking of applying to med school after that. As such, I was looking at pre-med requirements and noticed that I need a full year of general chemistry with lab, which would be Chem 101/102 with 053/054 as corresponding labs. However, I have a 5 on my AP Chemistry exam from last year. If I am able to do well on the placement exams, I understand that I will be able to get Chem 101/102 credit.

My question is whether or not this would affect my premed requirements. If I received placement credit for Chem101/102, would I have to take additional higher level gen chem classes? Or would that requirement be waived altogether?

The only reason I would want to place out of gen chem is to free up my schedule for other classes that I find interesting.

AP credit is usually not accepted by medical schools so you’d have to take a year’s worth of Chem no matter what.
