My daughter is a sophomore in high school and is interested in Wellesley. She eventually wants to go to medical school. Can anyone tell me about the pre-med program at Wellesley-- size, competiveness, quality of the program? I'm particularly interested in knowing how the program works-- what classes need to be taken, how easy it is to enroll into these classes, research opportunities, etc. Also, if anyone has guidance or tips on the application process for Wellesley specifically, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Below is a link to the classes pre-meds should take:

My D’s first-year advisor told her that historically, about a third of each first-year class comes in with a declared interest in pre-med, but far fewer actually end up doing it. It’s not a “track” but rather a series of classes students have to fit in before they graduate. You can major in anything but still be pre-med. Many pre-meds end up majoring in the sciences anyway because it’s easier to fit in the requirements, and because it’s easier to go abroad (which about half of Wellesley juniors do, either for a semester or a year).

Enrollment is based on class year. My D had no trouble getting into 100-level science courses her first year. There are some placement exams taken before the semester (i.e. for Chem 105 or 120).
