Hi, I was hoping someone could help me out with a question. I will be entering Smith in the fall as a transfer sophomore and would like to start taking premed classes (all of my first year courses were in the humanities). I was thinking about starting with biology, but it looks like there are three intro biology courses (at the 100 level). Which one would I start with, and what would constitute the two semesters required for med school? Also, this is more of a premed question, but would I be able to take just biology my first year or should I also take chemistry? I guess now I have to fit everything in during three years instead of four! Any help would be appreciated :)

Hi yoohoo - In order to make it through all the premed courses you would have to take bio and chem - Smith splits the Chem courses across two years - so my daughter did general chem in the fall and orgo in the spring and will do orgo 2 in the fall and gen chem 2 next spring. She did two core bio classes I think in order of course number but is taking a higher level bio class next fall before taking the environmental core. She wants to go abroad and has already realized she can only do a semester if she goes to a non English speaking country (and still worries about getting all the premed stuff in) so I’m guessing you would have to go pretty heavy on the science to manage in three years.
