premed

hey can anyone tell me how good the premed program is at Fordham? I want to go somewhere near/in the city but don't quite cut it for Columbia (but I'm applying anyways- you never know) but I was just wondering if anyone would tell me how they do with their premed kids- how many actually get into medical school?

I'm not sure how "good" the pre-med program is but I do know that it is very competitive and very hard to get good grades. Many students find it difficult to cope with Fordham's comprehensive liberal arts core requirement alongside the courses required for the bio/chem major. I would also look into schools such as SUNY Stony Brook, LIU, St. John's (cheaper alternatives). Overall, Fordham would provide you with better education and a Fordham degree may be more powerful/prestigious in the long run.

I have heard that the Pre-Med program at Fordham is very solid. Depending on what campus your talking about i will tell u about FCLC (lincoln center). They have about a 80% rate of med school acceptances. Also the program is very well designed to help students get there shadowing/internships in as well as helpign to prepare for interviews and what not. You have your own Advisor which is there from Freshman year to meet with you helping along the way. Also the community is close-knit which helps you interact with the other students also preparing.

Just to respond to one part of what starburyknicks said...do not bother with St.Johns, your better off at CUNY.
