Hi,
I applied using Simmons' Premier Application and was deferred to RD (for what reason I have no idea). I got a letter some while ago asking for an additional essay. I had no idea what the additional essay was and just kind of ignored it. I have not heard from them since about anything except FA. Should I still send in an additional essay, because the only thing I answered on the app was a short answer question. It was a really simple app. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

They do have an additonal essay, and the questions are:

ESSAY (Simmons College Essay)
Please write and attach a 200400 word essay on one of the following topics. Be specific and write as clearly and effectively as you can. Label all pages with your name and Social Security number. The essay should be typewritten, and not exceed three pages.

As students, we were asked to discuss the most likely social ramifications of a light bulb in the center of each forehead that would shine brightly whenever its bearer told a lie. The major conclusion most of us drew was that, without our ability to lie successfully much of the time, Western Civilization would soon come crashing down. The more obvious casualties included parenting, friendship, advertising, retailing, religious ceremonies, courtship, politics, jury trials.
(James Beniger, letter, N.Y.Times, May 18, 1999) Do you agree or disagree with this conclusion? Explain and discuss your answer.

In the novel Animal Farm by George Orwell, one character states, All animals are created equal but some are more equal than others. Do you agree? How do you see this as being relevant in our world today?

I guess they didn't really care because my sister called me today and told me that I got in. I never sent in any of those essays. The premier application didn't ask for those essays, but they sent a letter later specifically asking for one. So glad I didn't do it. Thanks for your help.

You need to write an additional essay other than the one on Common Application?

Question about that same application... is it binding? Do I have to go to Simmons' if I get accepted?

nope it's not binding - it's just a 'special' ED application form. I applied using it because it was pretty simple and had prepaid envelopes. I got accepted about a month after sending it in and also got a generous merit scholarship

I have a friend who got a Presidential scholarship at Simmons and she loves it there. She debated whether to go to BU or Simmons, and when she and I went to the admitted students open houses, it was much better at Simmons. Plus now they have a lot more 'green space,' they have parties with the guys at Northeastern and BU. It is a really cool place. I stayed in Pennsylvania, but I go visit her.

My D was interested in Simmons, but met someone recently, who left after a year because she just wasn't challenged enough. She was on the higher end of their scale but not over (score-wise) but just felt she wasn't getting out of it what she could. She waited until mid sophomore year, but it didn't seem to be changing. She ended up going to a very good state school and hasn't had that experience there , although she misses the friends she had at Simmons.
Does anyone have any thoughts on the academics?

As to academic rigor, Simmons has produced some very fine women in public service. Gwen Ifill of Public Television went there, as did Alison Shwartz, who is in U.S. Congress. Simmons is ranked high in sciences, pre-med, and management. Each student has to find the right fit.

One of my daughters is interested in looking into Simmons and we hopefully can visit in the Spring. She also knows through a friends a young woman who left here but her major was not well represented. You really have to do your homework first. Sometimes a student gets a great package or loves a location and doesn't do their homework. I read about a young man at Clark for instance that was way above their stats, got great aid and was challenged in his Psychology courses and had a lot of research opportunities. He was happy....others like him in other smaller majors weren't.
I am interested in job placement and the percentage of grads that are working or go onto grad school, but I can find that out on our trip or at their site.

Pear4evr, is the presidential scholarship a good amount and is it linked to a certain GPA?

The Presidential Scholarship at Simmons is worth $10,000 for 4 years, if the student keeps at 3.00 gpa. It goes for tuition. It is given to students with a high gpa (A- or better) and good scores, and good recommendations.

The academics are good but not, perhaps, Wellesley, Bryn Mawr or Smith level. My D was accepted with a Pres. Scholarship and $$ for a semester abroad. She hasn't seen it yet and probably won't bother to as she got way more money elsewhere and still has 5 colleges to hear from. Its in a nice location of Boston but not much campus feel.

I forgot the tuition with R&B but 10,000 wouldn't help us if that was it. I'm sure other grants, etc. that figure in for some families. I worry about their endowment in these bad economic times, but they haven't said they are cutting back yet.

hi, i feel kind of dumb asking this but I cannot find the link to apply using the Premier Application. Could someone tell me were to submit the application?

I received an invitation to apply using the premier app in the mail and then a link to follow up online if I so chose. I don’t know if it is open to anyone or not.

By getting an invitation to the prmier application, does that mean you cannot apply using common application?
