when do you think a person should start studying for the SATs?? what about SAT classes?

im planning on studying PSAT/SAT off the prep books this summer to prepare myself for the PSAT in october. (im a rising sophomore) and take SAT classes during christmas break/easter break/summer vacation in sophomore year.

is that a good enough?? i am terrible with standardized tests... and my verbal (reading+writing) scores are worse because im not a native speaker. i did a practice PSAT around Jan 2005 and i made a 59/65/71.(which could be worse) i did more exercises on math lately and im averaging a 78/80...

AND if reading helps, what kind of books should i read?

I think xmas break is a little early to start taking classes for the SAT. I took it in Spring of sophomore year and I thought I could have done much better. If you are available during the year adn have lots of time, take a class in the fall of your junior year. That will help prepare you for the PSAT and the SAT, which you could take in december or january.

However, the PSAT isn't nearly as important as the SAT, and other than serving as a practice test for the SAT, the PSAT only matters if you score in the top 1% in your state.

I took a PSAT/SAT prep class in May this year. I'm a freshman right now, and I'm planning on taking the PSAT this fall. I think the earlier you start preparing, the better, since you don't have to cram and stress and totally freak out about the PSAT/SAT in the two months directly before the test.

I always thought that doing lots of practice tests was a good idea, as well as knowing prefixes and suffixes. That can help a lot in terms of vocabulary; if you don't know the word, you can at least guess the meaning.
