Hello. I just finished my sophomore year in high school and I we are currently in summer vacation. I am taking some rigorous classes next year such AP calc, AP chem, and AP micro. My main goal is to ace chem and calc. I was wondering how can I prepare for calculus over the summer? what should I focus perfecting? my plan is to do much more than the summer assignment assigned to us. Should i purchase any prep book? They gave us the textbook to use over the summer for the summer assignment. So perhaps should look over the chapters? Please do help as I really want to be prepared. Thank you

The first chapter should be a review of algebra and precalculus. That is a good place to start. That is all you really have to do in order to “prepare” for calculus. You could also try and read the wikipedia pages for limits, derivatives, and integrals.

Do you just want to be ready for calculus or learn the basics of calculus over the summer?

On my first day of calculus, my teacher wouldn’t let us enter the class unless we answered one of her flashcards on the unit circle correctly. You could start by reviewing/memorizing/understanding that.

Make sure you are solid with algebra and trig. Probably around half of our calculus AB class couldn’t evaluate cos 2pi/3 in their heads. Really, it’s more of a matter of just visualizing the unit circle.
