and buddy cmon-wut representation do you think a summer program has of the actual religious environment at gtown? ... go back during the year pal when you can see the kids who actually got in-let me kno how big that "bubble" is lolol

well saying it like that would have been a lot more clear than the banter in post #16- i wasn't accusing you of being jewish -i said dipset or whoever (reads this and believes g-town discrminates against jews)---it really sounded like you were accusing them of doing this too---i was tlaking about the north-south thing becuase i thought you or the others could've mistaken this as anit-semitism---i'm from the south why would i get defensive about that- i'm benefitting from it- god- never mind--nice article though---i guess after reading it i have grounds for better understanding the discussion you guys were having--sry--just disregard the last post

haha its all good brotha... I don't think I would go as far as to say there was anti-semitism in admissions- but if Sol Rosenburg and John Galvin had identical stats, I'd def put my money of Johnny boy getting into gtown. im sure its annoying to hear people moaning about why they didnt/should have gotten into a particular school, but if you check into the history, the whole concept of "selectivity" in admissions was created with the intention of "selectively" keeping the jews out (or at least at the ideal "15%").. to what extent that is still true i have no clue, but i think you could draw a parrallel to any other instance of discrimination: even if it is "legally" corrected, there will always be a trace of it to some degree... again im not trying to advocate for jews in admissions, i just find it interesting how you are so quick to disregard it as a thing of the past, esp at a jesuit school like gtown...

at what point does the "competitiveness" of the north and the concentration of jews become an ironic coincidence? not to be too much of a conspiracy clown, but would using "geographical diversity" in admissions subsequently give colleges the politcally correct cover-up to keep the number of jewish students down? sometimes you gotta open your eyes a little bit, esp at a school like gtown that asks for a freakin photopgraph (blue eyes in, big nose out... jk lol)

Dipset, where on the application did GW request a photo? I didn't send one.

sry that was referring to georgetown- out of context from a convo i was having w/ armcp... from what I kno (I was going to apply, but then changed my mind) GW does not require a photo

If anyone ever asks you how many people apply to Gtown with GW as a back up, direct them to this thread. The thread starts off asking about the preppy kids at GW and ends up with an argument as to antisemitism at GEORGETOWN. Come on guys, I understand the temptation but lets keep the GTown comments at the GTown forum yeah?

I would say GW is less preppy and more Jappy--(Japs = Jewish American Princess--though "Jappy" can be used to describe Jews in general, they can be preppy but it's a diff kindof preppy than what most ppl are used too--it's the loud New York kind). GW has a very distinct Jewish character (which appealed to me because I'm Jewish)..i wouldn't say it's the preppiest school I visited. There are, however, quite a few snobby *******s. Still diverse and welcoming overall.

I attend GW and pop my collar and crush beer cans on my head while listening to 80's rock, does that answer your question?

dude that's colgate, not GW--GW is about as urban as it gets..

you said you didnt get into GW in another thread--all you are doing is discrediting the school because your mad you didnt get in--stop being a *****.

GWU sounds like the perfect place to find your rich, handsome husband...thats the only reason im going there. thhaaaaat's right. :D joking...GWU rocks

When you say "jappy" do you mean the annoying, b**chy, snobby, uptight, conceited JAP or a really really fashion concious , wealthy, but down to earth Jap. I encountered both types in my high school and the latter is actually not a bad thing.

what does Jap mean?

JAP stands for Jewish American Princess, although it can also be used as a derogatory term for Japanese (during WWII) or any person of Asian decent because apparently, we all "look the same" to white people; I completely understand, all you white people all look the same too (I'm asian). A prerequisite for a Jap is that their parents need to be somewhat wealthy. Some Japs acquire a snobby, uptight, "I'm so important" attitude as the progress through their money driven lives. Other Japs accept their lucky predisposition to wealth, flaunt their wealth a little, but stay cool ("Cool" as in not mouthing off to every hint of opposition they have and staying down to earth)

Sorry for any of you japs out there, I have no quarrels with you. I was merely stating what is the general concensus on what a jap is.

I'm not preppy at all. That's mostly because I'm broke, but I'm not that kind of person and I'm attending in the fall. You can't just see one person and say that's a preppy person. You have to look all around you.

Excruciatingly superficial post capecod48, if you subscribe to the garbage you have just written then you are just one more exemplar of the extended adolescence afforded American nouveau riche youth. Embarassing. What about studying? What are you going to college for?
To pose with the other poseurs? To compartmentalize other kids in such obvious and crude ways? "A cool crowd"? How dull.

I actually think it kind of is important to figure out what your classmates are like...personality-wise and priority-wise. The happiest students at GW were the ones who knew what they were getting in for and wanted to be there.

I can say that nearly everyone at GW is super-passionate about what he/she is studying. There is definitely no "cool crowd," though -- there are cliques, but I don't think any are "cooler" than the others. And yes, a ton of people are obsessed with fashion (at least, they were when I was there), but I was actually too poor to wear name brands and no one ever said anything to me. It doesn't cost a lot of money to look presentable...

Alhambra-I like the way you think! Some of these posts are so narrow-minded.... People, stop trying to stereotype others and try to keep an open mind. Don't judge people on the clothes they wear. Focus on your studies and your goals in life and surround yourself with positive people who will support those goals.

pretty much a lotta kids are pretty preppy. it's kinda strange actually. kids keep up with apperances a lot. (like wearing the ralph lauren, lacoste, j. crew, etc.) fashion at g-dub is all about the logos and what not. certain kids can be quite cold, if you do not keep with the trends and it's difficult for transfer students to find their "niche." it's a VERY, VERY, VERY, VERRRRRY CLIQUEY school and if that's your thing, then whatever. (I'm not down with the clique thing tho) i mean, it's a school for a type of person--ya feel me?

yeah, we feel ya just fine.
