Are there even any for people with extremely mediocre HS grades? like 2.5-3.0 range.

I would check out some Cal State Universities in Southern Ca. Maybe Long Beach State or something. Perhaps you could also check out ASU, its not that difficult to get into.

Arizona State

UC Santa Cruz might be a stretch
Pepperdine?

I agree with Cryto - look at the California State Universities. There are 23 of them, so you can go online to CSU Mentor and put in your preferences and see which campuses would be best for you.

The UCs have a minimum 3.0 GPA for eligibilty for instate (higher for oos), so they are all reaches for you. CSUs are a better match.

University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and New Mexico State

SDSU

ten characters

U of Arizona

SDSU, I would HIGHLY recommend it from the criteria you posted. Beautiful location, very social, relatively easy to get into.

Thanks guys. I didn't really know much about CSUs until today, I did some research on them too.

I actually heard SDSU was very selective, atleast compared to others? Is it really crowded in dorms?

Can anyone give me an individual overview of these CSUs: Monteray Bay, Channel Islands, Fullerton, Sonoma, and San Marcos? These ones I still haven't heard much about. How's their weathers? Any more or much less preppy than others? Mostly commuter? A ton of potheads like Humbolt? I don't like drugs, but drinking is ok. Also, I'm leaning towards (but not 100%) either psychology or history as majors.

Look at Whittier, USD, Loola Marymount, Chapman.

The Cal States are not preppy and are mostly commuter schools. Much better social scenes and college experience at the above. They are not as cheap as CSU's though.

I'd look at USD and Pepperdine.

Unless you are from California I think all the CSUs will be a reach. Many students will be staying close to home now with the uncertain economy and in-state students get first shot.

SDSU. end of discussion.
i live close to that school. lot of parties, lot of HOT!!!! chicks, and its SAN DIEGO!! America's Finest City, where it almost never rains and the average temp is just right no matter the season!! and when it rains in the winter, the mtns. are a good hour away and u can go up there to play in the snow. close to the beaches and other exciting things and attractions. preppy? idk, its pretty mixed.

USD would make a nice place to study. the campus is beautiful, has almost everything that SDSU has, but its not much of a social campus.

San Marcos State: not familiar with that place. it is in San Diego, but its located inland. expect hot summers there. winters can get freezing up there as well. the climate varies within SD County. not much of a social scene anyways. preppy, highly unlikely. with ur grades, i think u can get in there.

hmmm.... i feel like im advertising. lol, thats how nice it is over here ;)

I do live in CA, right outside of Fairfield shudder but now I'm happy.

Maybe I could get scholarships for those non-CSUs. From what I've seen I like Pepperdine and LM (size doesn't bother me, as long as social life isn't dead). I need to look into USD, Whittier, and Chapman though.

EDIT: SDSU sounds awesome, but is it usually overcrowded?

Is Texas Tech too southwest as opposed to west?

Arizona state you are in for sure

yeah definitely look at loyola marymount, it sounds like exactly what you're looking for. and sdsu...san diego's gorgeous, i agree with socalsoccerdude, you should definitely check out sdsu and usd. usd's harder to get into but very preppy

Pepperdine but its somewhat difficult to get into

Arizona State University probably.
