I'm an international and this term truly confounds me. Am I right in infering it means rich kids who dress well? So what's so bad about that?

Anyhow, I like everything else about Trinity. Tell me if the preppiness is a real drawback - and if an intl (who needs tons of aid - you get the idea) would face any kind of challenges adapting to it.

You hit the general idea - rich kids who dress well

Prep is used in a more deragatory sense for such people who flaunt their wealth or status, are self-centered and pretentious, and associate only with people who share such characteristics simply because they think they are better than us 'lesser' folk. Generally, they are pretty bland people who have the appearance of being involved in many things and leading interesting lives, when in truth they are nobodys and just surrond themselves with more people like themselves to reinforce the idea that they ARE important.

This is a more extreme 'definition' of 'prep' and this kind is usually few and far between, so I don't think trinity can be that bad - and I certainly hope not, because it will make for a long four years

Trinity is EXTREMELY preppy. I went to visit it, and before I did I was positive this was my top school. When I saw the kind of people that go there I was completely turned off and quickly changed my mind.

If you're looking for diversity, then Trinity is not the place for you.

Samantha, are you serious? That really sucks, I am really interested in the school, but I dont like what you are telling me, definetely a huge minues.

Can you post some more comments about the school? I think all of us here would really appreciate them. Thanks!!!

I'm not a prep though I attended private school - but I play sports, love theater, am active in the amazing community service opportunities here, and have made many wonderful friends from all walks of life. Trinity has it's share of people with the "prep" mentality but they (fortunately) keep to themselves. Believe me, Trinity's prep scene is no unlike - in in some cases a lot less - than other New England LACS.

The majority of students are down-to-earth, talented, very very bright, good hearted, and lots of fun. I've made friends with people from all walks of life, ethnicities, and nationalities....and I am am minority but have never encountered any problems being so here -

I've also noticed that Trinity students and alum don't post too much on CC but I think it's because there's no need to "toot" their horn like so many of the other small Ivy NE LACS - we're all too busy getting on with avademics and life. And the school always gets a large number of applications so maybe there's no reason to advertise on web sites such as this the way other schools do.

Princeton review needs a major up-dating because they are behind the times in a mjor way.

Trin is very, very preppy, so much so that it is a major (though not the deciding) factor in my transfering out. I'm not a new englander, so maybe I'm ill equipped to handle the preppiness here but for me these people are the steryotypical snobs. They will look down their noses at you and are only out for themselves.

There is a major difference between being snobby and preppy. Most of the snobby kids I know happen to be wannabe skaters. The preppy kids tend to be the more socially active and financially oblivious. Keep in mind that any preppy kids you may find at Trinity passed admissions and have earned their spot there. If the kids at Trinity are anything like the ones I know, it should be perfectly easy to befriend more than one group of kids. In the end everyone is there to learn and have a good time. Good luck.....If they weren't worth it would they have gotten in?

I haven't been there so I don't know what the atmosphere is, but hypothetically:

Assume they are the prick kind of prep. It is possible that they go there simply to be in their element - around people who are exactly like themselves. Thus the high drinking rate.

I can't imagine how a prep would want to be a skater - they are polar opposites, and skaters hate preps.
