Is Georgetown as preppy as everyone makes it out to be?

how preppy it seems depends on how preppy you are. to me, it seemed like a 6.5/10 on the prep scale :)

I'm a student here and I'd say it's alot LESS preppier than other top tier schools I've visited.

It's really what you make of it. Sure, there are the people who pop the collar and roll up their button down sleeves. But there is definitely without a doubt a LOT of diversity. There certainly isn't so much preppiness that you feel the need to conform.

^What she said basically. It's not filled with "bro's" but you'll find a few here and there. You'll see pretty much every style on campus so don't worry about feeling pressure or not finding people like you.

Does Preppy carry a negative connotation in your world? If so, then you may be stereotyping a little bit too much or confused because every top school is going to have a lot of preppy students, but not as much as LACs in New England. Georgetown will have a lot; MIT will not. That's life: learn to get along with people different then you, not just racially, but in terms of background and preference.

the majority are preppy but there is actually more diversity then people think

Clearly, popped collars, Ralph Lauren polos (or Lacoste), aviator sunglasses, etc. are the norm. It's an admissions requirement, you know. (Just kidding.)

In all honesty, it's a lot less preppy than it's perceived to be. The preppyness is there if you look for it, but every school (including State U) has it.

I've visited G-Town and I saw more casual than preppy. Some students seemed to be hurrying off to an important appointment wearing loafers, sweater, and khakis. But most students seemed comfortable in Uggs, Sweats, and a sweatshirt.

If you want to see preppy, go to Princeton. My God - I would consider myself preppy - and yet that school takes it to a whole new level. It almost looks like a parody on New England style, but the students aren't trying to be facetious!! 10/10 on preppy scale at Princeton.
