Prescreening Results

Where have you passed so far?

I've passed CIM and SFCM so far. I'm waiting to hear from 9 other schools

Cincinnati CCM confirmed my interview and audition earlier this week.
I don’t expect to hear back from most of my other schools for a while though because they have January deadlines or later audition dates.
Good luck!

If it helps at all, two years ago, my son got results from NYU, USC and New School in mid-late December. Good luck to everyone!

First prescreen for S just came in. Passed at New School for Jazz Piano. I am not even the one going, second kid to college and the waiting is SO stressful! Waiting for 4 more.

Just got the news from MSM…I didn’t make it :frowning: it’s weird because I passed CIM and I heard that it’s harder to get into versus MSM…still waiting on 8 other schools. Wish me luck!!!

Life! So sorry bout MSM. We have been told none of it makes sense sometimes. Just keep plugging away. Good luck on the upcoming ones.

S received his pass at MSM today on Jazz Piano- very happy as it is tied for first on his list.

Passed MSM prescreening for Classical Voice!

@Lifeofsolitude- very often passing pre-screening has not very much to do with your playing/singing but more to do with a particular “sound” a school likes or a type they need filled. Some people- and this applies more to singers- come across much better in person than on a CD, especially for those sopranos who have a “steely edge” to their voices (i.e. Patricia Racette). One particular school is known for accepting singers with a more strident tone while other schools would pass on that applicant. There have been kids on here who were accepted at top conservatories but rejected from smaller LACs or public university programs- go figure. Some years are worse for this than others but trying to make sense out of it takes too much time and energy. Good luck to all!

Others have also told me that prescreening results tend to vary from college to college based on their quota or preference. Earlier this week I found out that I was rejected from CCM, which I was pretty devastated about. My imagination started running wild as I began to think that if they rejected me - everyone else would too. I do have a feeling as to why it may have happened - I sent an audio when they preferred a video. Of course it could have been for any other reason. So far: MSM - Yes CCM - No. 7 more to go.

Congrats Mezzo! Yes, we know a student that was accepted to Juilliard (attending) but didn’t make the prescreen at a couple of lesser schools. I think sometimes it all depends on what the people viewing the prescreens like/are looking for too. As in any music genre - you can’t please everyone all the time.

Passed prescreening at MSM for Flute!!! :)

Congratulations to your S as well Squiggles and congrats to floutista! So exciting!

Congrats to everyone who passed MSM so far! I have yet to hear from USC, UCLA, Northwestern, Rice, NEC, UNCC, Mannes, and Peabody. Good luck to everyone else too!

MSM isn’t my top school but I was confused and am still confused on the matter. I was expecting to pass but that’s okay. I guess it wasn’t meant to be. But that makes me worried that I won’t pass most of the other schools I applied to since this is so weird.

My soprano daughter got a yes from CCM last week and yeses from Michigan and MSM this week. Since she did Tanglewood this past summer, she was able to bypass the BU prescreen and just schedule an audition.

This waiting is killing me!

Trying to make this all work with air travel is going to be a challenge!

Lifeofsolitute, these things can truly make no sense. The two schools my son was not accepted to were the last two on his list in order of preference, and one was clearly the “least prestigious” of all his schools.

There was also one prescreen he didn’t pass that was quite confusing when considering those prescreens he did pass. And because the NYU audition is a kind of “jam session,” he had a chance to chat and play with some musicians who DID pass that other school (they were heading there after NYU). Believe me, my son is not overly confident nor one to brag, but he frankly just couldn’t process that a few of those guitarists passed any prescreen where he didn’t. He said “Mom, XYZ clearly made some kind of mistake. Whatever, moving on!”

I also know that for some instruments, MSM is more of a graduate than an undergraduate program. It is also a very “traditional” school, so perhaps there are clues there.

But the best advice is not to read into it period. Don’t assume that your MSM result means anything whatsoever in terms of your other schools, particularly since you passed CCM! And let us know when you get the next “yes!”

passed msm prescreen for viola! yay

S passed jazz trumpet prescreen for NYU.

How did the NYU prescreen results read? S received a confusing e-mail from them the other day and when I called no-one was able to tell me what it really meant.

“Congratulations! After careful review of your video submission, we would like to invite you to NYU for an on-campus audition and interview. Your audition date is scheduled for Wednesday, February 29th, 2012.”

and then a bunch of details…

Thanks so much. I am still confused and the jazz studies phone instantly disconnects when dialed. Curious.
