Prescreening Results

Have you tried the main number for the music school admissions office, musictwins? Or the Dean’s office? The problem is that exams are over at many schools now, so you may need to run the circuit of offices before you reach someone who can give you accurate info. Good luck!

Yes, I am working my way up the phone chain! Dean is supposed to get back to us. The curious part is that S’s videos have not been viewed, one can track views on youtube. The e-mail says no further information required. Can’t tell if this means no audition or what.

Hopefully S will hear back soon. If he does not have an audition he will not submit the remaining portion of the common application due Jan.1 and save the $70 fee for something else.

NEC says by the middle of January for prescreen results, at least for composition. This is worse than watching your kid at a spelling bee.

S received invite from NYU Steinhardt: Jazz Piano…looks like a LONG week in New York come Feb/March!

Musictwins: That sounds strange. You would think it would read either one way or another. Hope you hear back soon! Did D apply to NYU?

musictwins, the website says " All prospective and transfer students must first submit an application for admission to the Steinhardt School at New York University before scheduling an audition, except for the fall Open House." If he has not submitted the application they will not have scheduled him yet.

NYU Jazz studies page says Applications to admissions by Jan 1, pre screen Material by Dec. 1 for ED 2 and reg admission. This is why we are a bit confused.

Congrats to all for passing their pre screens!! Best of luck with all future replys and auditions!

Do you guys think we will receive most e-mails from schools by next week?

I think USC should release results next week (fingers crossed) but don’t know about NEC. They have been all over the calendar in past years. These are the only ones left for S.
Who else are you waiting for?

I passed voice prescreening for CCM last week, and I’m still waiting to hear from Oberlin, Northwestern, Eastman, Curtis, and North Texas. It says on the website for North Texas that I’m accepted to the music program, and I did get an academic scholarship, but I haven’t received any information about when my audition is, and they did require a prescreening. I guess this just means that I’m accepted academically for now. I know a few people have been completely accepted to Oberlin for voice as of yesterday, but they did early review and an early audition, so I guess they’re choosing from those people before they pick for prescreening. The voice faculty was supposed to meet this week to discuss the prescreenings and such, so maybe soon? Fingers crossed!

Last year, Eastman was very late for us. They go by your choice of audition dates…my D had requested the late Feb date and we didn’t hear back until early Feb. It made for some very rushed travel plans.

musictwins, it sounds to me that perhaps prescreens will not be considered if the applicant has not filed his NYU application (even if it is technically not due yet - this may be an oversight with the music department’s process, which would not surprise me at all). I doubt many people try to get a prescreen result before committing to a school’s application fee.

We’re waiting for Oberlin and NEC (jazz trumpet). More nervous about the Oberlin one than NEC.

passed UNT prescreen for VP!

I know someone who already passed prescreening for Oberlin (for voice). I don’t know if they go by audition dates or something else; I still haven’t heard anything (which I hope isn’t a bad thing!) Oberlin’s my top choice. Got my “official” acceptance letter to UNT today, but I think that’s just to the University, not to the music program (still waiting for prescreening results). Still waiting to hear from everyone else!

trumpetguysmom and hedgehogopera - Good luck with Oberlin!

Has anyone heard anything from USC/Thornton yet? Any idea when they release the prescreen results?

They are suppose to this week…probably tomorrow or Thursday at the latest.

S passed pre-screen and has been invited to audition for Frost SOM at the University of Miami for Jazz guitar.

Passed prescreening UNT but not Oberlin (my top choice) :frowning: Still waiting to hear from Eastman, Curtis, and Northwestern.

Sorry about Oberlin. Hope for better news on the others.
