<p>Hi everyone! I’m new to the forum, but I wanted to say that my son just got his acceptance to audition at Eastman for undergrad piano performance just a few minutes ago! He’s excited! </p>
<p>Here are his other pre-screen results:
CCM: accepted 10/23
Indiana University: accepted 12/11
U of Michigan: accepted 12/17
Oberlin: accepted 12/12</p>
<p>Having lived in the Rochester area for decades, I am in full agreement with those that are suggesting that you eat the cost and skip flying into Buffalo. This is proving to be a hard winter and the NYS Thruway has long stretches of open road where the snow can make it impassable- I have nightmares of 5-6 hour trips between cities in blinding snow and on icy roads!
For those heading to Eastman, consider staying at the Inn on Broadway, which is a short, safe walk around the corner from the school; call them directly and ask for the “Eastman” discount. Walking down Main Street to Eastman from the Hyatt and such right downtown can seem even longer in bitter cold and wind and isn’t always the most pleasant.</p>

<p>DS just heard from Eastman and has passed the prescreening for piano! So happy to see him smiling ear to ear. Congrats to all and many thanks to Mezzo’sMama for compiling this list. Wishing everyone a safe and happy audition season. Will try not to worry about the weather just yet!</p>
<p>Just wondering- how far is the Rochester airport from Eastman? I’m worried about driving in Rochester in February!</p>
<p>Hello! New to board also but wanted to share! DD received notice this morning that she passed prescreens for undergrad piano performance at Eastman and NEC! Thanks be to God! 
Waiting to hear from Peabody, CIM and Glenn Gould School (Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto).</p>
<p>Congratulations all around! Glad to know that some places are getting back to normal- hopefully the midwest schools will open back up tomorrow and notices will roll out. I really appreciate the “thanks”, Bachmoom!</p>
<p>The airport is about a 20 minute drive in good weather from ESM. Unless you are planning to tour the area-which could be “iffy” given the weather so far, my advice would be to take a cab. While it might be a nice sunny day, if you are there when there is a storm- or the infamous, “Lake Effect” snow or squalls which can drop a foot of snow in one place and nothing a mile away- driving can be dicey and dangerous.</p>

<p>Just for the info of those who have been asking about traveling in the Rochester/Buffalo region- there is a reason why we are telling you that it can be extremely difficult! The following is a notice from the NYS Thruway Authority about the road closures between Buffalo and the PA border (which covers the SUNY Fredonia exit) and Henrietta and LeRoy (which are the two exits for Rochester):</p>
<p>Updated: Tuesday, January 7 2014, 02:05 PM EST
Henrietta, N.Y.- A more than 130-mile stretch of the Thruway in western New York has been closed in both directions because of blizzard conditions across the region.</p>
<p>The Thruway Authority announced early Tuesday afternoon that Interstate 90 is closed from Exit 46 in Henrietta to Exit 61 at Ripley, on the Pennsylvania border 60 miles southwest of Buffalo. I-90 between Buffalo and Ripley has been closed since Monday night, but westbound traffic had been allowed to travel until late Tuesday morning as far as Exit 50 just east of Buffalo before having to exit the highway.</p>
<p>State police say all westbound traffic must now leave I-90 at Exit 46, where eastbound traffic is being allowed to enter the highway.</p>
<p>Travel advisories or bans are in effect across western New York.</p>
<p>It’s probably not great flying weather, either. :(</p>

We live in the Chicago suburbs, and most schools in the Midwest are indeed open tomorrow. Roads are much improved and tomorrow will be +15, a heat wave after the last few days! Thank goodness this wasn’t an audition weekend at Northwestern - my older D is in school in Terre Haute IN and there are kids still stuck en route at various airports all over the place that have been trying to fly in since the weekend. Definitely planning ahead, watching weather and having a plan B for D2’s auditions!</p>

<p>Congratulations to everyone hearing about successful pre-screens. What a talented bunch!!</p>
<p>This is not a pre-screen notification as there were none required for violin, but my son just got an email from Peabody with his audition date and time. Nice of them to send these so early so people can starting making travel plans.</p>
<p>Does anyone know of anyone who has heard about auditions from Northwestern?</p>
<p>DD just got an email from Peabody that she passed the prescreen for undergrad piano performance! ;-))) Thanks be to God!</p>
<p>Just called the Bienen School at Northwestern. They said results would be emailed tomorrow and Friday.</p>
<p>Glad that the notifications are finally getting out. I realize that the waiting is nerve wracking, but the people involved in this process- admissions and those who hear the pre-screens- work many extra hours during audition season. The weather of the past few days wasn’t just inconvenient, it was dangerous and life-threatening and travel was prohibited entirely in many locations. When you get that notification, consider sending a brief “thank you” by return email!</p>
