<p>My son, a cellist, received an email from CIM on 12/19 “confirming his audition date” and including the day’s schedule etc. We assumed this meant that he passed the prescreen but I haven’t noticed anyone else posting responses from CIM?</p>
<p>kansasmom- I’m assuming that your S had everything in to CIM early? That would account for the early notification, and since he has an audition date and schedule in hand, it’s safe to say that he’s good to go. If you need info on where to stay, PM me.</p>

<p>I’ve just heard that CIM is closed tomorrow, Monday, 1/6, due to the weather in Cleveland. That means that all of the offices are also closed.</p>
<p>Thanks for that info! He did get his materials in early and had a lesson with a teacher last spring. I am assuming we will be hearing rapidly from the other schools in the next two weeks…</p>
<p>Shurtleff Cottage is great in Oberlin. A nice B&B. Doris is the proprietor and I have stayed there numerous times. Located walking distance to the Con. You better hurry and make reservations. There are not many choices within Oberlin. And the Oberlin Inn is not so bad. I have stayed there many times also. My D is graduating this year.</p>
<p>Received emails today from both NEC and SFCM that I passed prescreen for Graduate Composition.</p>
<p>Update- CIM and their offices is also closed, Tuesday, January 7th, due to extreme weather conditions. This is pretty much the case with all schools located in Michigan, Minnesota,Illinois, Indiana and Ohio; looks like the NY, PA, CT and Massachusetts schools will be following suit so those waiting for notifications will have to be patient a bit longer. <p>Anyone hear from NEC for undergrad piano yet? I’m getting anxious and starting to doubt…</p>
<p>prestofaust and everyone else- Please watch the national news! Many places are under a state of emergency and schools and colleges-and their offices- are closed. I know it’s frustrating, but when the wind chill is -40, it’s just not safe to go outside and employees can’t make it to work.
NEC is in Boston and they are dealing with heavy snow and bitter cold and nothing is moving in or out of Logan Airport and the same is true of almost anyplace east of the Rockies.
I know that it’s frustrating but believe me when I say that those in admissions offices and on audition panels work very hard and they want to get things done in a timely manner. Schools are closing to keep their employees and students safe and to conserve energy so that natural gas can keep flowing to homes.
I know that the following schools are closed tomorrow, Tuesday, January 7th:
CIM
Case Western Reserve University
CCPA-Roosevelt University
Northwestern
DePaul
DePauw
Indiana University
Ohio State
University of Illinois- most campuses and offices are closed</p>
<p>Our D got the same CIM email mentioned above, confirming audition date but not explicitly saying “you passed the prescreen.” Since their web site says to wait for audition confirmation before making travel arrangements, we assume this means D passed the CIM prescreen. Oh, she is an undergrad hornist. Not sure of the exact date she received the email, but I believe it was similar timing to other (~12/19).
Still waiting to hear from Northwestern. None of the other schools she applied to required a prescreen for horn.</p>
<p>Congrats to your D, MomOf2TeenGirls! Frankly, the horn section in Cleveland Orchestra is regarded as the finest in the world, so do try to catch a concert when she’s in town for her audition. The entire section uses matching Conn horns, so the sound is incredible.
Northwestern has been closed today and tomorrow (as is CIM) so unless someone is working from home,don’t expect to hear anything from them until later in the week.</p>

<p>INtellectually, we know that it’s the weather, but my son is taking this waiting really hard. He just keeps saying, “I"m not getting in. I’m not getting in.” </p>
<p>While attempting to remain positive, I’ve been researching air fares. Wonder if you all have any advice re: flying to Buffalo rather than Rochester for the Eastman audition. It appears we can save two hundred dollars per ticket per person, which is obviously significant. Is that a reasonable thing to think about doing? Any experts out there? Thanks guys.</p>
<p>Momzie, While Buffalo to Rochester is not that far when it is a nice day, because of lake effect snow the area between Buffalo and Rochester is what often gets slammed during a winter storm. Because it is for an audition I probably would fly into Rochester and pay the extra for airfare. But I am not a gambling person, just a Rochester native who lives in that general region who drives to Roch. weekly often on snow filled roads. It is a big difference in money but I think it depends how much time you have to play with during that audition time.</p>
<p>Totally agree with cellocompmom. Our 2hr 15 minute drive from my driveway to the Eastman parking lot took about 4 hrs last year on the day of my son’s audition. His friend came from a Buffalo suburb and his ride was also very long that day. Eastman was fantastic about it and continually thanked people for braving the weather to get kids there for auditions. If you can, fly directly to Rochester. That being said good luck to your son. Eastman is a magical place and I can’t wait to take my son back on Saturday. He may or may not be making us crazy and needs to go back to his truly happy place. hahahahaha!!!</p>
<p>I know of a few graduate students who just heard back from Eastman by email late last week. Re: NEC, I didn’t hear back until January 12th or so anyway when I was applying to schools. Good luck! :)</p>
<p>I have place at the Royal Academy of Music in London. I passed the pre screening at Manhattan School of Music MM in Cello (notified 12/20/2013). I still wait for NEC and Juilliard…</p>
