Presidential Scholars Program Requirements

I plan on applying to BC, and just read about their PSP program on CC. I checked it out on the Boston College website, but they don’t list any requirements, saying only that they are looking for students with outstanding academic records. Can anyone give me an idea of what sort of ACT/SAT scores and GPAs are common amongst people invited?

My ACT is a 31 and my GPA is a 3.8 at a very competitive high school where students take college classes talk by PhD professors. I know my ACT and GPA aren’t the best for a full ride, but I have some strong EC’s:

  • Founder and Editor-in-Chief of PCfastlane.com, an online technology publication read by tens of thousands every month. Also founded own online business earning thousands of dollars per year.
  • 200+ volunteer hours at hospital
  • 2-year internship with National Center for Preservation Technology Training (a government agency that is part of the National Park Service)
*Speech & Debate President, JCL (Junior Classical League), Young Democrats, NHS (if I get in), Ambassadors.
*Currently working on 5,00-word paper to be submitted to the Concord Review.

These are just a few classes I’m taking my senior year:
Physics III, Calculus II, Calculus III, Adv. Latin Poetry, U.S. Foreign Policy, British Literature, Adv. Expository Writing, and Emergence of Modern Russia II.

Intended major is international business. Do I stand a chance at getting an invite to PSP when I apply Early Action?

Sorry, but an invite for Presidential Scholars would be very unlikely based on the stats you have presented here. (I do think you might have a good shot at EA acceptance though.)

Those invited to the Presidential Scholars program are the very, very top of the applicant pool. Remember that just 20 - 30 applicants (out of the 7,000+ who apply EA) are invited each year.

Just to give you a specific example from the CC archives: "Subjunctively" posted last fall about receiving the invite. Stats were: 34 ACT, GPA of 12.1 (on a scale of 12.0 = A+), and class rank of 2/299. He also was an National Merit SemiFinalist and an AP Scholar with Distinction -- having already taken 8 AP exams by his junior year (and receiving 5 5's).

Sleepy- I applaud your determination, however I would focus on just getting in. Remember that your profile looks like every other kid who applies to BC, or any highly selective school for that matter. The kids I know who are P-Scholars were the most impressive people I have ever met: all around well-rounded kids plus something like winning the national science fair, being published in the NY Times, or single handedly introducing and pushing for a piece of legislation. are you 18? can you run for elected office in your town? that may be an easy way to do it.
