How difficult is this program to get into? What exactly are the benefits besides the full ride? I attend a Jesuit school, and one of my teachers said that I should look into the program, and that I may make a good candidate for it. My stats:

SAT: 2390 (one test) 800V, 790M, 800 W
GPA 3.9

I have numerous extracirriculars (multiple leadership roles) - too many to count, and show a very strong emphasis and dedication to service in application, as well as my desire to recieve a Jesuit education. I realize that my SAT’s and grades are well within the range for BC, but what about for the Presidential Scholars Program in particular? Do I have a shot?

You definately have a shot, however, the program is extremely competitive. If I were you I would definately go for it!

have a great shot try and see what happens good luck with that :)

From what I heard, the program initially single out 30 students and send them to a retreat at BC. Then they some how weed people out (by lord know what method) to 15 students and they will receive a full tuition scholarship. However, room and board, you up on your own. BC have a policy about each students (no matter how desperately poor or well off scholarship wise) must take at least the Stafford Loan. I receive a full scholarship (tuition+room board+books) to go BC, it's not the Presidential, but BC still take my scholarship money and made me take out a small loan. Quite p i s s off about it. I'm considering transfering. Look into Brandeis, they have 1 scholarships for every 8 students!

Ruddune, it sounds like you got a sweet deal at BC--why are you thinking of transferring? What's the dirt on BC?

Brandeis? That's gotta be one of the most unfortunate places I visited last year. It was like a grown-up version of the Jewish summer camp my parents made me go to as a kid ... same ugly architecture, same bad attitudes, same trying-desperately-to-be-cool-but-knowing-deep-down-i'm-not complex. No thanks.

Chitownstud, are you from Chicago? If so, you better not be at Loyola ... hehe. As for your question, at the info session they said that Presidential Schoalrs are usually chosen from the top 1% of applications they get. You don't actaully apply to the program. You just apply regularly and they choose you ... I don't know about room, board and books but they also pay for summer programs in Boston, France, and NYC after freshamn, sophomore, and junior years. All this info and then some is at:

You have to apply early action though, so at least 40 are initially selected from around 4,000 as opposed to 25,000.
