Presidential scholarship calls

Congrats to those who got in!
That being said, I’m curious as to why they only give out 60 such scholarships. They seem to be shooting themselves in the foot by making the process so competitive–after all, it is OSU, not exactly the Tier 1 variety of college that CCers have a general infatuation with. The issue being that many of these 60 will likely have been accepted to their “dream” schools, i.e. Ivies/Ivy plus, and thus put in a position to make an exceptionally difficult choice (as much as we’d all like to be in a position to make such a choice). Like other applicants, I’m throwing in the towel on OSU.
But once again, my best wishes to those who got in!

Thanks, JustAnotherTry, and everyone else who’s been wishing us luck!!! I’m as bewildered as the rest of you as to how they chose applicants (I guess based on essays?). I’m extremely grateful to have been picked, but I do wish they would offer more scholarships to qualified applicants.

So, chordata, with all that said…I’m as curious as you about how they distribute scholarships! Your guess that they have an idea ahead time seems plausible, but I really have no idea. I’m mostly just hoping that everyone does basically walk away with a Medalist or a Presidential, as people have been speculating, since OSU hasn’t officially said that.

Yes, as summerstorm said, thanks to all those who are congratulating us and wishing us the best!

I think that they relied on the essays for their selections. All of us have already made the necessary test scores and class rank to be in Honors, so I would guess that now they focus on the qualitative instead of the quantitative? That’s just a massive assumption, but to me it seems possible.

summerstorm, maybe they try not to say everyone will walk away with either a Presidential or a Medalist so that they can keep us all in stiff competition for the Presidential? Perhaps they don’t want anyone who’s attending to think that they can just default to the Medalist without effort. Although I assume if you go in and act like a well-adjusted and intelligent person, you’d get one of the two? I sure hope so, anyways. I’m both nervous and excited to meet everyone and see how all of this plays out.

I read the information on OSU’s website but does anyone have more about the process, once a student is selected? Specifically, I’m looking for helpful information to best prepare for the interview.

Thank you very much for any info!
