I was looking at past years AU posts and someone mentioned that instead of attending Talons Day attending the Presidential Scholarship Day was a much better event if you could only attend once. I don’t recall my S receiving any info about Presidential Scholarship Day. Is it a thing of the past and if there still is one can anyone suggest which is most informative to attend. This is the only visit he will have before deciding where he will attend. We do plan on staying several days to get a good feel for the area.

Any info you can share is much appreciated.

You could call the scholarship office to clarify if you want. When we attended it was called Presidential Scholars Day. It was impressive and definately worth the time. There were many informative sessions and students were given the opportunity to attend a Presentation by the Dean of their department of interest. However, like you, we could only make one visit, so we also called and scheduled a tour of the engineering dept that afternoon. The student who gave us the tour did an exceptional job and gave us alot of additional insight. I would highly recommend setting up a visit/tour of the department your student is considering if it is not part of the agenda.

We attended Presidential Scholars Day a few years back and my understanding was this was an event for prospective students receiving the Presidential Scholarship award. I think Talon was for students eligible for the honors college maybe? Yes it was impressive and pretty much sealed the deal for my daughter and confirmed to her she made the right choice.

I would highly suggest calling the school and setting up a personalized tour or time to talk to someone from the honors college and not just rely on attending just the event. We did that for our first visit and it made all the difference. AU rolls out very impressive speakers for these events for sure but sometimes it’s more about a person connection with a faculty member, student or advisor where you can ask questions ans spend time one on one.
