Presidential Scholarship?

Does anyone know what it takes to receive a full ride from Santa Clara? Are they starting to award less scholarships due to the economy? If you know of anyone who has received this award, please let me know. It would be fantastic if you included stats as well. Thank you!

Anyone? bump

This is just based on personal experience and from what I’ve heard, but scholarships have become tighter due to the economy, at least for the past 2013 class.

The full tuition presidential scholarship is awarded to at most 10 students in the incoming freshmen class at entry. The scholarship is not transferred to someone else if the student decides to attend another college.

I was fortunate to receive one when I entered.

Here’s my stats:

Entered as an Econ Major in the Leavey School of Business

Graduated from a small, private Catholic high school
GPA: w - 4.25; uw 4.0
SAT(with writing): 2190
ACT: 33

AP Classes: Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, US Government, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Biology, Chemistry, Statistics, US History, English Language

College Courses: Introductory Physics and Environmental Economics (upper div)

Varsity Tennis 4 years (Co-Captain Sr. Year), Math Team-Co Captain, Yearbook Editor, Senior Class VP, and President of SADD.

Thanks for the help!

My stats are pretty similar to yours
GPA: 4.0 UW; 4.13 W
SAT w/ Writing: 2210

AP Classes: 6 total, mixed in with other honors/pre-ap classes. We don’t have a huge selection.

Tons of volunteer work, LINK Crew for 3 years, Swim Team for 4 years (captain Sr. year)

And I’m a girl entering Mechanical Engineering.

Do you think I have a decent shot? or maybe at least a half-ride?

claremontguy: When did SCU inform you that you got that scholarship? Did it come with your admission packet?

I got it!
Notification came in mail along with acceptance letter today.
Definitely liking the idea of not paying for college!

college6…does the presidential scholarship include room/board also?

Its just full tuition. You still have to pay room and board. Its still a great deal though.

college6, if you don’t mind sharing, what were your stats?

GPA: 4.08 UW
ACT: 35
I’ve been in all the toughest classes at my high school.
I come from an extremely competitive private Catholic high school.
I have a large range of extracurricular activities.
For privacy reasons I don’t really want to say anything else about my activities, where I am from, my race, etc.

Congratulations College6…SCU is a great school!!

Wow! Congrats college6! I got my letter yesterday and I didn’t get anything about any scholarships. I was kinda sad because a couple other people in my school got scholarships from scu and I got nothing. I had better stats then them, but I guess I just wan’t special or something. SCU was one of my top choices, but without money, I probably won’t go there…oh wellz.

I got offered the Presidential too! yayayya :)

My stats:
Class rank: 18/100
GPA: uw - 3.9
SAT: 2200
8 AP classes total
All 5’s on AP exams - Spanish Language, US History, English Language

college6 and purplemarkat, do your presidential scholarships show up on ecampus yet?

No, they don’t yet… but apparently we’re receiving confirmation in late december? I don’t know, what about you, college6?

I’m not sure.
