how prestigious is syracuse? it is tied with university of florida in rankings. is this accurate? which schools are considered equivalent?

its in the top tier. idk if that helps or not. ive seen that people who apply to 'cuse also apply to schools like nyu and cornell. (i know i did)

Syracuse isnt prestigious unless you want to go for Journalism :)

Syracuse has a 3.4 peer assessment ranking which is a good indicator of prestige and UF has a 3.5. Another indicator is SAT scores and Syracuse has 1120-1320 SATs vs UF's 1160-1360

Chocolateisgood, you aren't quite right. Syracuse has a well regarded School of Visual and Performing Arts. Their visual arts program is particularly well regarded and highly ranked by US News and World Report.

the Maxwell school of Citizenship and Public Affairs is ranked number one for graduate studies...Harvard's Kennedy school of Govt. is ranked number two...the maxwell school school does not give undergrad degrees but anyone doing an undergrad in political sciences takes all their major classes at Maxwell...undergrad degrees are given by the College of Arts and Sciences...Syracuse is well respected for that department as well...

its number one in my book. which is the only book that matters.

Ben and Jerry,

Maxwell does give undergrad degrees through arts and science, Policy Studies major.

did not know that...thanks....

but actually that was i also kind of said in my earlier post...that you attend CAS and get a degree from there but your courses would be offered at maxwell...

i'm going to SU for VPA and my scholarship -i'd probably say that the only thing i know that makes florida better is the weather, but that's not saying much. taxguy- where is your d going to college next year?

papersignals, how much was your scholarship? Did you get merit or need based? If merit, may I ask how much it was and what your GPAm weighted and unweighted was, and what SATs were?

About $21000 includes a Performing Arts scholarship and loans. 1910 and 3.4 unweighted (as of junior year)- i think after final transcript probably around 3.5ish. so where is your d going?

Papersignals, was your performing arts scholarship merit or need based?

As for my daughter, she is interested in design and will be going to Cincinnati. University of Cincinnati school of Design, Art, Architecture and Planning is a lot cheaper than Syracuse, and she got $5,000 in addition. Thus, I can't justify the difference. My daughter also attended the Pre- College art program at Syracuse and didn't like the school. Perhaps it was the really snooty roommate that she had, which might have tarnished her view of Syracuse.

my performance scholarship was based on my audition i'm pretty sure and they only gave out a handful of them. no need-based. but i think i'm probably going to do my interdisciplinary studies in art though (if i wasn't a musician, i'd be an artist- so why not both) good luck for your d in cincinniti. there's a school for everyone of course..

syracuse as a whole isn't very prestigious academic wise, but it has a large alumni base (with many famous alums) and the average person has heard of the university which I believe is an important fact in regarding prestige.

i herd its better than harvard.

Gomestar, I completely agree with what you said.

as long as you got the most out of your 4 years, that's all that matters

Uhm...No. SU is not better than Harvard... But the interior design program is rated 7th in the nation for this year (and I believe around 120 programs in the country are accredited). U of Cincinnati is first, Cornell 3rd. As for Architecture, they're also 7th, while Cornell is first. (By the way, I believe SU is stuck in 7th, since they were 7th for both in 2000 as well).
