Prevalence of parties at summer programs?

I'm looking for some programs to apply to apply to this summer, and for anybody who's been to one at a university, how was the social scene wherever you went? I'm not interested in only parties obviously, but I don't want to take out 3+ weeks of my summer with not even the slightest bit of fun. I've read threads where at some schools, depending on the program, there was virtually no homework and a lot of hookups and partying (coughs Columbia coughs), and some where there isn't much fun or recreation, just studying. How were your experiences? Where'd you go?

I don’t know what grade you’re in, but I went to cty two years ago at Franklin and Marshall. There were five dances/parties in the three weeks there, so it was pretty fun, and there was plenty of free time activities. Last year, I was in the Yale Ivy Scholars Global Leaders Program (it’s called global scholars now), and it is about leadership and international relations, etc. There was absolutely no partying of any sort…on the final day we had some games and movies in the dorm basement, and before that an optional trip to the museum, but everyone was too busy with work :stuck_out_tongue: oh and EXPLO (another more “fun” camp) was also on Yale, but they had raves almost every night and we could hear them all the time.
I haven’t been to any others, but remember to achieve a good balance between work and fun :)

@mayee107 I’m a rising junior. Thanks for your info! I was thinking about applying to the Yale Ivy Scholars program, but from what you said, it doesn’t sound very exciting. Enriching, but not very exciting. And I’ve heard good and bad things about Explo lol. Thanks!

Check out blueprint pre-college, I think it’s a good middle ground between explo and scholars.

Hehe you’re welcome  I’m also a rising junior! I am planning to apply to Sumac, which is a math program at Stanford. The description says it will balance “many social events and activities” with academics. But who knows…the ivy scholars program is still very good nevertheless.

Bump bump bumppppp!

Summer@Brown was AMAZING. you can choose to take classes with professors either in the morning or in the afternoon or both (which is what i did) but you might end up regretting taking the whole day for classes… Anyways, I still had a lot of fun. People there were great, and brown did organise parties at the end of each session (if you’re in a three week session, big chance you’ll get a few of these)… And Brown has many activites on mornings, afternoons and even sometime lunch times like frisbee or tie dye all that…but most of the social and night life happens between the students… I had the chance of meeting really upbeat fun people and we partied A LOT … let’s just say i didn’t get a lot of sleep and probably broke all the rules they had established (curfew, sleeping in your dorm, no substances…) … BUT you don’t have to do that at all if you’re not comfortable with it, amongst the many amazing people there, I’m sure you’ll find at least 1 or 2 close friends you can relate to. And let me just insist THE CLASSES ARE AWESOME.

@melanieu so you took the seven week credit course? I want to take either the two or three week course. May I message you?
