I sincerely believe that it is the best choice for you and that you would excel at Williams.
Have an EXCELLLENT (excelllent with three LLL’s for emphasis) four years at Williams!
who knows, we might meet up for med/law school…in coughCambridgecough or coughNewHavencough. ;)

Aww, thanks limetime
I’m sad that you’re not going to be in Williamstown with me though… stupid Hanover stealing all the cool kids haha

I think the exact same for you at Dartmouth. You’ll be RIDICULOUSLY rich and successful and speak Russian better than I do
hahahahaha i WISH! but one can always dream, right? (drools at Harvard/Yale Med Schools)

And thanks, mythmom and whitelily!
whitelily: I’ll see you in fall!

Hey, ChandlerBing!! I wondered what your decision would be!! I have been reading your posts, even if you’ve never heard of me. I have the same decision you had-Williams or Cornell, so I read your posts every time. I still haven’t decided, though. Help me, please: Why did you pick Williams, other than $$$? To be completely honest, I am still bothered by the fact that my friends and family all know what Cornell is, but none of them have heard of Williams. Stuuupid and superficial, I know… but it’s the truth.

After you guys do, could you reply if you receive a receipt/information package or notice anything that would indicate it’s gone through? I sent my deposit in a week ago and it hasn’t been cashed/nothing noticeable has happened. Getting a bit worried :/

Elgin1: The decision was based on fit, rather than prestige/academics. I felt at home at Williams: I loved the people I met, loved the campus, loved the dorms, and loved the campus culture.

Also, I chose it because I had a few qualms with the HBHS major in HumEc at Cornell (the major I got into there).

Williams is actually 4,000 more expensive per year than Cornell is, but since the two became a lot closer in price after I appealed at Williams, money wasn’t the deciding factor.

Hmm, Williams has an AMAZING reputation with grad/med/law/business schools. Basically, the people that really matter in your academic/professional future will know, and highly respect, Williams.

elgin - When my son was faced with a choice between Williams and a better known school (Duke, in his case) last year, he had to deal with a lot of puzzled looks from friends and their parents who couldn’t understand why he’d choose Williams. (Family wasn’t an issue, since I’m an alum.) What he found was that even though pretty much no one outside of family had heard of Williams around here, once they found out that he had decided to go there, they all assumed it must be a great place if he chose it. And now they’ve all heard of it!

Interestingly, I’ve found that as soon as I learn of a new school that I wasn’t previously familiar with, all of a sudden its name seems to turn up everywhere. I bet that will happen to your friends and family, too.

All that said, ChandlerBing is absolutely right that in the areas where it really matters, grad/professional schools and lots of employers, the Williams name means a lot.

After all, Williams is the 5th “feeder” school into top 15 grad/med/law/business schools right after Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Stanford. (And actually ranked higher than Duke, incidentally.)

Aww, shucks, guys. Thanks for caring about me; I really hope you guys enjoy your 4 years at Williams. I just sent in my enrollment confirmation to Dartmouth today. It was a tough choice because I still love Williams and know it is a great school. I’ll always remember the day I got that purple folder (my first acceptance.) But in the end, I felt more of a connection at Dartmouth and that’s what it came down to. I’ll miss you guys! :'(

p.s. ChandlerBing, I am NOT going to be ridiculously rich hahaha…a 53K bill is not a good foreboding for my wallet. But I might be able to speak Russian, even with horrible pronunciation! :)

Yes, but only go to Williams if you feel a connection to the school/feel it’s a good fit. Otherwise, it won’t be a great place fo ryou.
Yeahhhhhh numbah five :)

Of course we do, but Dartmouth is a great place too. The purple folder was pretty awesome! Yeah, when going between similar schools, you have to go to what feels right. That’s the way to pick.

yes you are! I’m going to be like hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt after medical school… but at least I’ll be a doctor (a poor one, but still).
haha does Dartmouth have a Russian department? I won’t be taking Korean (Williams doesn’t have it), but for a Winter Study I might do Japanese or Italian.

yeah im sending mine in tomorrow, monday, but im worried if it will get there on time - i live across the country and am wondering if i should send it priority/express mail.

I think I sent it out certified mail so that it would definitely get there. though i’m not 100% sure, since i’m completely deficient at deciphering the postal system haha
