A question for students who had done the FAP preorientation previously: where do you/can you store your luggage for move-in during the program? I checked the website and it didn't mention anything about luggage storage. (the other programs made it clear that they couldn't accommodate extra luggage or could only accommodate one piece.

Personally, I don't really have a choice, since I'm from the west coast - I HAVE to bring my luggage with me when I fly in for FAP. Shipping my stuff over is tempting, but would not be cost effective.

Have you been accepted to the program yet? I found their pre-acceptance information rather unhelpful (I couldn’t even tell what we were going to do for the week), but I believe I got more information after they took me. At the very least, I got the names and contact information of the people to ask.

Ask them. I don’t think it’s safe to assume that everything will stay the same year to year, so I don’t feel comfortable answering definitively. They don’t bite, I promise! Some of my friends are new leaders, and the old leaders are also super cool.

Well, here’s the thing. The acceptance email says:

Since I don’t want to bother the WHOLE PROCTOR TEAM with my (rather straightforward to answer) question, I sent the email to Dana. However, I got an Autoreply that said:

Which is kind of awkward since May 23rd is 3 days before the “Accept Your Place” deadline. (I personally don’t get why they’d put down her email as someone to contact if she was going to be unreachable for the majority of the time frame between decision notification and the “Accept Your Place” reply, but whatever.)

Not sure. One of my roommates did FAP, but her parents stopped by on the move-in day to drop off her luggage. Maybe try posting this question on the Class of '15 facebook page? Hope it works out!

Ah, Dana’s a he. And while your question may be simple to answer, there’s no shame in not knowing something (even a simple something) they didn’t tell you. /…I don’t think I responded before the accept-your-place deadline. I just forgot. They had to send me a reminder e-mail, I think, so…trust me, this simple question is not embarrassing to have to ask them all.

I spoke to a student worker at the Freshman Dean’s Office about this. It seems the normal thing for on-campus pre-orientations like Dorm Crew and FAP is to bring “the bare minimum” for the pre-orientation then move in with everyone else on move-in day. No luggage storage provided. So you have to figure out a way to make do. This student flew in for the pre-orientation, then her parents drove up with her stuff for Move-In Day. The website suggests mailing stuff to be held at the post office. We’re thinking about finding friends in Boston who could hold S’s stuff for a week. Or just dropping him off, taking a week’s vacation in the area, and coming back for the Move-In Day.

25 years ago, my parents put me on the Amtrak from Chicago to Boston with a suitcase and a serious backpack. I caught the T to Harvard Yard and moved in. I guess that doesn’t happen anymore!

Oh yay, Dana got back to me and told me that they had place for my luggage.

Nope, still happening. I’m not bringing a freight tank with all my furniture or something. I’ll just be carrying a backpack and two normal sized suitcases.
