Okay...so for those of you who've been waitlisted (I know...there are a ton!), I think we should start a thread where we complie statistics about previous years waitlists. Anyone have any links/ideas/info on how many people have been waitlisted and accepted from it over the last 10 years? I think we need to start a list...

Come on guys...I know that atleast one of the 16something people who viewed this thread have some sort of numbers...

i got waitlisted. makes me so MAD/SAD. i REALLY want to go to washu. ughhh...

Guys, my sister was waitlisted by Columbia med school a while back..... so she called the Dean (of admissions I think) and told her how interested she was in going...plus sent some additional application information (some medical article/journal she wrote or something) and got accepted.

That would be my only advice, if you haven't lost interest in Wash. U. by now.

Well, it seems bleak to me.

1/770. 2130 Sats. Loads of ECs. Visited campus. Yeeesh.

Not sure what to do, really. Hopefully someplace will want me.

you are valedictorian and you got waitlisted? umm....wow. that makes me even more frustrated. whats up with admissions....

chem major
decision: waitlisted

dang it! I wasn't expecting much, but this is so.....

my intentions are by no means to sound cynical.. but with admissions as competitive as they've ever been, it's not unusual for valedictorians and 2400-scorers and what have you to get waitlisted, deferred, or even rejected at elite universities. unfortanutely, the vast majority of applicants to these schools are in fact all of the above (as far as stats and titles go).. and thus these numbers no longer have as much "distinguishing" value as they may have a few years back.

that said, if you are one of the valedictorians who wasn't offered admission.. chances are, you will be at plenty of other places that will provide you with a wonderful undergrad education/experience. there's no rhyme or reason why Student A gets into Harvard, but not Yale. but that's admissions. a shot in the dark, really.

good luck to all. never let a group of adcoms foster self doubt.

No one really answered the OP's question...does anyone know how many are typically accepted from the waitlist? Or how many are on the waitlist for that matter?

Like they said in the FAQ the number accepted off the waitlist varies each year. :/

I've learned to trust WashU's admissions offie anymore.. I remmebebr someone called the office asking that if you didn't get an invitation to minority weekend and you were a minority does that pretty much mean you're rejected.. and they made up some balgona about how not all minorities get invited to minority weekend.. which doesnt make any sense.. and how they work to build a great student body.. well I think it's more about the numbers/yield/"will this student come here as his/her first choice?" more than building a diverse and qulaified student body. That being said, I know that all of the students who got accepted to WashU are extremely qualified and I by no means intend to toot my horn (for I know personally my SAT scores are on the low side), but it just drives me crazy that students who get accepted into other, more prestigious schools like MIT and Harvard got waitlisted at WashU.

last year

i got into Cornell, Duke, JHU, Northwestern, Chicago, Rice

and waitlisted at Wash U

^ That's what I'm talking about! I hope I don't offend anybody, though, because as I said I know that this year's group is extremely qualified, I'm just boggled (not that I didn't get in, that others didn't get in).. like I said WashU is more concerned with their game than anything else and I've learned not to trust the administration anymore

I'm a minority, and I didn't get invited to multicultural weekend. I got accepted to WashU.

Maybe I was wrong about that one aspect.. did you claim minority status on your application?

I put my race: "Other"---Filipino/German.

Is Filipino/German considered minority?

Anywho, I agree with fjchowdhury. when I compare the schools I've already been admitted to, with WUSTL's decision... it seems... weird, to say the least. and it's really not that I want to be arrogant or anything, ya know? Though I do understand RunLMC5's comment about Student A being accepted into Harvard but not Yale. Still, WUSTL........

I didn't know about the online thing; I just got my letter today.
So, what is up with WUSTL? Is this all merely because they want a high yield rate, or what?

Well Filipinos are considered minorities (Asian)...but obviously Germans aren't.

I think if you're a fourth or more minority, you qualify as a minority. (My skin is tan, and I eurasian features. I don't look like the typical white guy or typical Asian.)
