@15guoe because the results aren’t out yet lol. They are no longer available for the Class of 2014

Sorry if this is the wrong thread to ask this in, but I just realized that I said I was Applying for Princeton Specific Fee Waiver, but never used it or got any notification from NACAC or anything like that. I just used the Common App Fee Waiver. Will that mess anything up?

@BrooklynRye I appreciate your perspective and understand where you’re coming from. From now on, I will refrain from speculating about anything- the admissions committee is probably making its final decisions right now (well maybe not right this moment) and everything is officially out of our control!

@BrooklynRye I think that’s what Ambitious was sort of getting at! You guys are pretty much on the same page, haha.

But just offering my thoughts: I do believe that the admissions office operates on a “holistic” POV, and I do agree with you that numbers are the first and foremost thing that’ll open the door for admission–but to a certain extent, like Ambitious said. Personally, I don’t know if I’d want to just admit a class of top scholars with top-notch numbers (you’d probably just need a calculator for that), because standardized testing still doesn’t measure very valuable characteristics like creativity, and I know many of my friends who have squeaky-clean numbers that were polished by prep classes and tutoring. Not that I have anything against that.

Don’t get me wrong though–I totally see where you’re coming from (and I agree), but I’d also like to point out that most people applying to Princeton early will have these top-notch numbers, and a compelling story fleshed out by well-written essays are going to make you stand out. Maybe that’s what you’re getting at, too?

Anyway, yeah, like what @Ambitious19 just said, I won’t speculate either–I’m too nervous!!! But best of luck to all of you! All we can do is wait.

honestly, i have no idea about my chances at all… i’m not an academic superstar or anything (4.25 weighted and 3.97 UW) and a 2300 SAT score, but I am pretty good at music (i’ve been recognized nationally and internationally at a lot of different venues, i performed on national radio, etc) and my essays were alright, so i guess its just a crapshoot.

Good luck to all of you! 700 blessed candidates will be chosen, but all of you are people that will succeed everywhere no matter where you go. You all should be proud of yourselves for getting this far and applying to one of the most prestigious universities in the world! :)

@alfawarlord What instrument do you play?

@otter101 i play cello! it’s been about 10 years since i started it’s great.
trying not to let myself get disappointed lol

btw y’all, my old boss told me that they’re at around 2000 applications right now, they cut out a fat chunk of the applicants already to get deferred this year. They expect to drop down to 1000 in a week. Cross your fingers and hope for the best!

I was a Questbridge finalist and I ranked Princeton, but I wasn’t matched. I emailed 2 days ago and they allowed my application to be moved to SCEA. Does this mean it has already been fully reviewed? Will the previous comments from Questbridge impact the decision?

@alfawarlord Are you in CYS/ECYS/SFYO/SJYS/CPYO by any chance? And AHHH HOW DOES YOUR BOSS HAVE ALL THIS INSIDER INFORMATION?? Does he know if the adcom has reviewed the NorCal region yet?

@alfawarlord “not an academic superstar” 2300 is frickin good lol

hopefully they take applicants holistically in the context of their school…for various reasons, that’s really the main thing that’ll set me apart from the next kid with a good SAT/GPA. i’m so nervous ahhhh

Also, keep in mind the timeframe involved. Because Thanksgiving was so late this year, the adcom has a very short time to go through a lot of applications. I seriously doubt there is much holistic consideration going on at the SCEA stage. That takes place at RD when they are filling out the class.

@Ambitious19 haha his sister gives him all the deets because he loves knowing about stuff! I used to be a member of SFYO but i quit b/c it was too time consuming.

they’ve reviewed all the regions, but are whittling down the numbers of applicants. Basically, right now, they’re in committee. the dean of admissions, senior admission officers, and normal adcoms. pretty much, everyone views the application, both common and supp, through once, take a vote on it, and if there’s a severe discrepancy, they take a vote again with a third party involved of other adcoms and such. For Princeton, the process is usually pretty fast, because in many cases the dean has the final say, in cases of disagreement.

Hope that little insight from someone who knows about the process helped you guys out!

@alfawarlord Cool! I used to be a flutist with ECYS but I can’t go on the Spain tour this year (which is mandatory) so I switched to CPYO!

So has anyone been voted to be accepted yet? Or do they just eliminate people until they reach their desired number?

@binatang same; I have lunch when decisions come out so maybe I can hide in the library for a while

@Ambitious19 both! it’s a double vote process, one to cut people out so they have a manageable amount of people, and the other one to select the lucky 700.

I’m considering how wise it would (well, wouldn’t) be to check my decision during class… it comes out in a period where I’m allowed to use my laptop. I think it would kill me to be sitting in a class for 30 minutes knowing my decision has already been published…

My daughter got two emails as well. Did anyone only receive one notice of decision timing?

Hey guys! I’ve been stalking this thread for the past weeks (I come from the Yale thread). Alfawarlord’s updates and Ambitious’ posts have been great and very helpful! I wonder if Yale’s process is similar; I will apply to Princeton RD! Good luck to all on the 15th!
