Princeton 2019 SCEA Hopefuls Thread

Step it up guys… we are getting it HANDED to us by the Harvard thread - they have 195+ pages haha

@PrincetonPls I’m trying to do my homework for once instead of clogging this thread with endless posts about how nervous I am :stuck_out_tongue: don’t tempt me

@ingoditrust‌ I think you had to check something off in the Common App Questions section.

@otter101 I didn’t apply for financial aid because I wouldn’t have received any, so there was no point in trying :frowning: Also, I noticed in your past posts that you did SIMR this summer! Do you also go to MV, by any chance? A couple of my friends did SIMR too, so you might know them!

@PrincetonPls‌ Its fine harvard is for the scrubs. :stuck_out_tongue: (Watch how if i get rejected I may end up YOLOing and apply there anyways :D)

Guys, I think a few of us on this thread are quite qualified applicants that actually have a shot. If you think about it, why would kids who are yoloing post on this thread? I think the CC community is quite good in that regard, so not to worry.

I am interested however…how many under 2200 kids apply do you think? Is it a considerable majority?

Lol “yoloing”. Ugh how do I respond if I get deferred and people keep asking me if I got in as if I was supposed to get in?

Some interesting stats at Brown http://www.brown.edu/admission/undergraduate/explore/admission-facts</a>, 18% of valedictorians were accepted (represent WHOO) and 10% of (33-35 act), which i would say is pretty good.

Guys, you know whats cool? Think like this. College admissions are crapshoots sometimes lets be honest, here. They are. SO, lets say you are a qualified applicant. And you are looking at Harvard, which has a 5.9% acceptance rate. I would bump that up to 10 for qualified applicants. And Brown, to like 15-17%, and similar schools to similar rates. I would average a 17-18% rate in a crapshooty way at each school for each applicant. Thus, lets say you apply to 6 schools like that. The chance you get into one is like 70%. So don’t fret, fellow Ivy goers. Just be optimistic.

@lb43823 Why not just go ahead and apply to Harvard? Their writing supplement is optional so you can reuse an essay, lol, that’s what I’m doing. No idea how many kids with <2200 apply, but it would be good to know.

@HPClee‌ Tell them the odds weren’t ever in your favor, and you look to RD for better results at other schools. Hey can everyone weigh in their stats on this thread? Lets create a table.

@HPClee In my opinion, there is absolutely no shame in getting deferred/rejected. I mean 93% of us will eventually get rejected, so why be mopey about it?

@hopefulperson‌ Look at the brown stats I sent. A 2200 is like a 33 on act. So less than 33 basically. 269 got perfectt 36, 4591 got 33-35, 5144 got 29-32, 1703 got 26-28 and 1049 got less than 26! Guys, think like this…thats 12756 ACT submissions total. There were 1017 admits. Thats 7.97%, but if you take out the under 26 and 26-28 and 29-32 demographics, you have an overall 10.74% chance of admit. Sure, its minimal increase from the overall 7.97%, but if you score even higher, you are even more bound to get it. A 15% random admit chance, for me, with a 35 ACT, probably is pretty damn good. And Brown stats are probably similar to Pton although not the same, obivously.

To be really statistical, these things compound. Top 5% of your class? Sure add on a few more percentage points, good ECs? Add on a few more percentage points. So obviously this become subjective, but NO, you do not have the 8.8% admit rate Brown dons. We have a much higher real rate, I would estimate nearing 18-20%, with obvious fluctuations.

@Ambitious19‌ Did you post your stats anywhere? I am intrigued to know, considering you’re like on top of this thread :D

She owns the thread :)

Guys, where are we applying RD? Considering acceptance to Princeton or not, in both scenarios. And where have we applied so far? I feel like this light discussion will help pass time to decision time. I have applied to Pton and UCB. If I get in, I intend to apply to MIT, Harvard, and Columbia (and I am done). If I do not, I intend to apply to 6/8 ivies, mit, jhu, cmu, duke, northwestern + plus state safety

I just wanna get in and be done with the college process :P

@PrincetonPls who doesnt?

@PrincetonPls‌ Lets be real here, lol
