In reading the admissions decisions thread, I noticed that several people suggested that they might have been admitted in part due to Princeton's increasing commitment to the arts. I'm just wondering (well really, just hoping a whole lot), but does this push to increase the arts extend to dance? I know dance obviously isn't a visual art, but it is art nonetheless..... Please, someone say yes! :)

I believe that dance is included in Princeton's desire to attract arts students, although I'm not positive. Are you applying next year? If so, my best advice is to show passion for dance. Do an oncampus audition if at all possible. Best of luck to you!

I assume you read this, which is posted at the top of this board: http://www.dailyprincetonian.com/archives/2006/03/30/arts/14992.shtml

There does not appear to be a shortage of dancers on campus -- the dance program and the many student dance groups are very popular and play to sellout crowds -- but if you are well-trained and a good performer you will have many opportunities. If you are applying as a dancer, be sure contact the dance program and see about having an on-campus audition as well as sending in a video. Create a dance resume to send in along with your video.

Haha, the young woman who wrote that article is in my dance company. Yeah, Laura!!! Seriously, if you're a dancer (or even if you're not but want to be), Princeton is the place to come. So many opportunities it's ridiculous. The arts initiative in admissions is clearly visible in the exponential growth in dancers seen between the classes of '07 and '08. Holy cow, it's pretty amazing.
