Brass player here looking to submit a music supplement. The application states that we need to submit “10 to 15-minutes from a major solo sonata or concerto that displays contrasting examples of both technique and expression”. However, would it be acceptable to submit two separate pieces (not two movements from the same sonata) that total 10-15 minutes?I’ve been working on several solo pieces to submit to other colleges but I didn’t realize until recently that Princeton’s supplement explicitly asks for a sonata or concerto. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to play a sonata at the level required within a month or so (applying EA) but I’m also afraid that submitting something other than what was explicitly requested on the supplement guidelines will hurt my chances.
My daughter is doing a vocal arts supplement and she is in a similar position. I would say that you should always try to follow the directions explicitly. That said, we decided it was better to submit pieces she could sing really well. In her case, they ask for two different tempos and hers aren’t quite two different tempos but like you, she doesn’t have time between 5 APs, SAT subjects tests, college applications, etc. It’s not ideal. Her pieces are two different languages as suggested. Good luck with whatever you decide!
Hi! I’m pretty much new to CC, so sorry in advance if I’m doing something wrong.
Has anyone here been able to access the online application for the arts supplement? I’ve been checking nearly every day since the start of October, but the page still tells me that art supplement applications for the class of 2021 are not open yet.
