Good luck to everyone!
@basic yea do polos

@basicspace I would not worry to much about the dress code. I have had two interviews so far (well three but since one was on the phone, clothes did not really matter :D) and they told me not to dress up. I was just contacted for a Princeton interview as well and he said it would be rather informal. To make it short: Polo sounds completely fine. :)

So could I get away with an orange and grey sweater for the interview? Or would that be pandering? School colors and all that

Orange AND grey? Surely you must be mad?

But really, I wore a orange polo to my interview earlier today. I’d say as long as you aren’t making it super noticeable and obvious (hey, look at my shirt! notice anything?) you are fine.

Speaking of the interview, I’d say it went okay. It was fairly straightforward, with the alumni asking me specific questions and me answering them. I suppose I seemed a bit awkward, but that’s just me normally. I think I did pretty well, and I answered pretty comprehensively about me. In any case, I’m glad that’s over with, and I’m glad to know that I did an okay job with the interview.

After applying a few weeks ago with a fee waver, I just withdrew my app. I had applied before Yale took me during SCEA (I was too focused to wait until late december), so yeah… good luck, everyone!

^MikeNY5 Why did you withdraw? There is no disadvantage to keeping your app in the pool, plus you might be able to bargain tuition w/ Yale.

What did everybody put for the short answer questions? Favorite quote, book etc.?

Here’s my less than perfect stats :)

3.81 UW/4.81 W GPA (School is ~#126 public in the country, and we have a pretty rough grading scale, no ranks either)
ACT 32 C. 36 E, 30 M, 34 R 27 S
SAT (Princeton superscores, right?) 2160. 750 CR, 690 M, 720 W
SAT IIs (2 bad ones)+730 USH, 720 MI, 740 MII, 760 WH.

My scores and grades are somewhat low, but I’ll always have a healthy amount of hope :)

And for the short answer, I did the racial inequality topic.

Good luck to all of you RD applicants to Princeton. It seems like an amazing school…

My daughter and I (along with a younger daughter) toured Duke, Penn, Princeton, Brown and Columbia over the winter break. Before the visits, her first choice was Brown. After the visits, Brown remains in the top position, but she was very impressed with Princeton as well. Columbia is now likely her third choice. All three of these Ivies seem to have all of the key elements that she is seeking in a college. Duke and Penn each were downgraded after our visits due to their surroundings… i.e. the area where the campus is located. Brown is also the top choice for my younger daughter, currently a Freshman. She also now favors Princeton as her future second choice.

If not Princeton… what are your second or third choices? Or where else are you considering strongly and why? We welcome feedback - especially if you have actually visited the campus.

My daughter applied to a staggering 15 schools in total. She has already been accepted to FSU and UTampa, and 13 decisions are pending: Brown, Columbia, Duke, Penn, Princeton, Dartmouth, Vanderbilt, UVa, USC, Stanford, Northwestern, UChicago, UMiami.

We had also planned to visit Dartmouth, but we ran out of time. Its rural location and distance away from major cities is also a chief concern.

My daughter is aiming to pursue a double major… likely theater and computer science. Princeton does not offer a drama/theater major specifically as I understand it - so that may be one concern for her.

If she fails to gain admission to Brown, Princeton or Columbia, we may fly up to Chicago to visit UChicago and Northwestern before deciding… but Duke is currently her 4th choice.

Again… best of luck on D-Day…

I applied! :D

Btw, guys I have a question:
In the Princeton supplement - why Princeton Engineering, I mentioned a microscope developed at Princeton towards the end of the essay.

The problem is, I forgot to mention, the microscope invented ‘at Princeton’!! frankly it was three years ago, so i dont think they might remeber better. There was also a typo in the sentence. It currently looks like -
“The fact that engineers had spent four years developing a modern of microscope lens and have sent their invention to their first customers gives me hope.”
(A last minute addition - I forgot to write a modern ‘version’ of…)

Should I mail them about these 2 minor errors, apologizing about them?

@StanCardinal For the typo alone I’d not mail them. But in case of the microscope I would let them know as not every admission officer will know about it. They will probably think it was invented at Princeton, why else would you write about it? Still, I would mail them and be on the safe side.

Got emailed for my interview… Yay… Nervous.

@Spoolman: I withdrew primarily because Yale was (by far) my first choice. Also, I’ll get a full ride at pretty much any ivy because of my financial situation, so the difference wouldn’t matter much (there are also outside organizations that are covering much of what Yale will not). I figured that my app would just waste an admissions officer’s time… also, the people at the CCO at my school didn’t want me “to take spots away” from other kids (especially since I wouldn’t go).

Not that I’d get in necessarily. It’s a crapshoot for sure, but I belong at Yale.

Got deferred (like almost everyone else), so I’m in the RD pool.

@my88keys: No worries, the interview is pretty chill! I am sure that you will do fine!

MikeNY5: Congrats! Good luck at Yale…

@MikeNY5 That makes sense. I got no financial aid for Yale :frowning: I have a little brother, so I am pretty desperate for ways to get a better financial aid package by bargaining and scholarships. $60,000 is just too much and Princeton supposedly has better financial aid.

Ugh… I wish I had an acceptance in my back pocket.

@SpoolMan, We estimated using the Yale EFC and we didn’t qualify for aid either. :frowning: But at least if that’s what I’m dealing with for most colleges, my decision can be made based off of the school itself and not off cost. But I’m still going to apply for scholarships because it’d be stupid not to. I mean, we’re in that place where we make a bit of money, but $240,000 is still A LOT of money.

As a parent, I certainly feel for you applicants - enduring the long wait to decision day. My daughter has been accepted to two safety schools, but she is waiting to hear from 13 more schools - including Princeton and Brown, her two top choices. Good luck keeping yourself distracted until March 27th :)

So I haven’t read the thread so I’m sorry if this has been posted before. Princeton emailed my school and asked them to send my class X internal grades (not finals but internals). They only asked about mine and none of my other friends who have also applied! Does this mean anything?

@KarishmaSheth Woah, I’ve never heard of that happening before. I would take it as a good sign that they are interested in your grades and haven’t completely ruled you out! Is your intended major related to class X? What grade did you get in that class?
