Princeton Class of 2023 Waitlist Discussion

Nothing, though I did hear that I got rejected from Harvard this morning so thats fun.

F

@Justin13601 you referring to joancshen51348’s situation or this waitlist? Sorry if I sound paranoid lol.

@affable19 Sorry, F for Joancshen. Dw, I’m paranoid too… Princeton’s so quiet.

Looks like you have done everything. How can you get rejected by everywhere else? May I ask where did you apply to ?

Brown and UPenn released some waitlist decisions today. Radio silence from Princeton…

I guess silence is better than an email closing the waitlist

@dandcmom Well I guess doing everything still isn’t enough haha, nah but really it was pretty tough opening rejection letter after rejection letter to the schools you’ve dreamed of since you were little, but eventually you get over it. I was accepted to UIUC for 18K per year, and Purdue for $43K per year. The places that rejected me were MIT, Caltech, Stanford, Princeton, Cornell, GeorgiaTech, Northwestern, RICE, Harvard, and UMichigan. Definitely not an easy list, so I knew what I was getting into, but still tough to be rejected ten times after all the work you’ve done.

Thank you for answering my question so honestly. I just cannot believe it, your resume should qualify you anywhere and everywhere ! I can’t imagine what more you can add to it. Well, Good Luck to you, I am sure no matter where you go, you will do very well in life!

So 13 people got in through transfer… I don’t think that’s good news for us here :frowning: Last year I think 10 got in because their yield was high and “could only accept minimal students from the transfer list.” Since this year wasn’t all that different, I can only assume the yield was equally high so rip. Surprised that we still didn’t get an email though (probs just jinxed it all), so don’t lose hope

@Justin13601 I wouldn’t worry about it much at all, the number of transfer students barely indicates anything to us. Our odds still suck, but 13 transfer students being accepted bears no weight on it. For example just look at this article Princeton released in March, they state they expect to accept 12 transfer students, so they pretty much just had this planned ahead of time. They fill their class with the waitlist, not transfers. https://www.princeton.edu/news/2019/03/28/princeton-pleased-offer-admission-1895-students-class-2023

@Odysseus1 I guess that makes sense, since transfers would be part of '22 or before so eh. I like to panic myself

Where did you get your information about 13 transfers? (There were 13 in 2018.) I’m on the transfer waitlist and my packet said there are only 12 spots. The first people offered admission have until the 21st to accept their spot.

@zwetsch On Princeton’s ig lol. It says “Princeton offers admission to 13 students in second year of reinstated transfer program.” I’d assume that’s the same transfer program you’re applying to

Also I do have a feeling that transfer decisions impact our waitlist. One of us called and the AO said they were waiting on transfer decisions before moving on to the waitlist so if that’s the case, we won’t be hearing anything until the 21st when they accept their offers.

Yep! Same program. Thanks for the info!

Waitlist offers went out on May 20th for the Class of 2019, and May 21st for the Class of 2018. Hopefully, they let us know soon whether they will be using the waitlist.

Hopefully. It’s just odd that last year and 2 years prior the decisions came out so early.

I think if the waitlist is used, they’ll take people off the waitlist on Wednesday the 22nd. If they’re not using the waitlist, they will notify us that the waitlist is closed on Thursday morning the 23rd.

Unless the class is confirmed to be full, they won’t close the waitlist. Gotta remember some people who actually get off the waitlist don’t end up going either. Couple years ago they closed it in early July, while last year it closed first week of May. It’s impossible to predict.
