Princeton Class of 2023 Waitlist Discussion

Was looking for a waitlist thread for this year but could only find the 2022 one. Thus, I started this one up. What are the chances of getting off the waitlist this year? I know that last year had no people accepted off the waitlist and am wondering if that will hold the same for this year. Also, is sending an extra letter recommended to improve chances of getting off the waitlist?

There is no harm but it’s time for moving on from purgatory to paradise. What are your options and which one is your favorite among them? What do you like about that school best?

Anyone know if they’re using the waitlist this year?

I am still hopeful.

If anyone hears anything, please do let us know… thanks!

Everybody hella quiet this year… probably all scarred from last year’s results lol…

Someone should call the office if they’re using the waitlist or not (too afraid to call myself lol)

If last year says anything, they’ll email us all by next Wednesday if they’re not using it. Otherwise, we still have hope. Fingers crossed…

i am also a princeton waitlist hopeful (:

@verydeep I’m guessing you haven’t heard anything either? Guess we gotta be patient… I’m terrible at this.

Called yesterday and they said they are waiting on transfer students decisions.

Just spoke with a lady at Princeton Admission this morning, and she said there will be a few more days or even weeks before they know whether to use the waitlist or not.

I don’t know if we should take what the people on the phone say seriously. I remember looking at an old waitlist thread from years ago and someone said that the office told them that they were still deciding on whether to use the waitlist. Later in that same day someone said that they got off the waitlist. There’s no way that the office had no idea whether to use the waitlist or not just a few hours before starting to accept people.

There’s really no way to tell yet, or even predict. It’s highly unlikely anyone has been taken off the waitlist yet. In previous years it has been May 8 to May 10 that they take people off. Once they determine that they don’t need anyone else you will receive an email saying the waitlist is closed, probably around May 10. Until then you have a chance. But as far as chances go, it’s extremely slim and has nothing to do with your academic merit. It’s purely political and a numbers game at this point; only luck will help you. They accepted fewer students than last year though, and placed less on the waitlist, so perhaps it goes from a 2% chance to a 4% of getting off, but still don’t plan on getting in, not by a long shot. Not to be harsh, but your best option is to forget about Princeton, if you get in you’ve won the lottery, but if you don’t, well, you’ll hardly even notice.

Because last year they met their target enrollment, nobody was accepted off the waitlist and everyone was notified by email within a week. However, if they do decide to use the waitlist, it most likely wouldn’t start until at least next week and could go on to late June (I know someone 2 years ago who got off on the 27th). So as long as we don’t get that email, the chance is still there. Just another casual 2 months wait… not a big deal right…?

Transfer decisions came out yesterday. Last year, they notified students that the waitlist was closed on May 10. Fingers crossed!

Two years ago they took people off the waitlist on May 8th. Wondering if they’re releasing on a date not usually used or if they’re not using the waitlist at all.

When there is a bigger shortfall of enrollment than expected, they tend to react faster and use the waitlist right away, which was the case two years ago due to Yale’s expanded class size. Based on the admission data released on March 28, they are obviously projecting a high yield again, ~ 68%, so the question is how close did it turn out to be this year?

Has anyone called the admissions office now that they’re done with transfer decisions? I think that process was holding them back from dealing with the waitlist.

We just have to be patient… As long as we don’t get that email we’re okay. It’s not like they decide who gets off all by a specific date, it’s meant to be ongoing until June 30th unless they’re full early.
