As a Princeton alum, I have been sad to see the changes in recent years. The university used to have the best alumni organization and now it seems to have gone downhill. For admissions, there’s a new team and combined with the covid crisis, that may explain some temporary problems but who knows. The changes for alumni are not from admissions and not just this year. What’s sad is that many of the alumni chose Princeton over Harvard years ago in order to have a more personalized touch and friendlier atmosphere–now Princeton seems to have the attitude of Harvard and none of their advantages.
@rvv1016 I’m interested in your comment as an alum. I’m not a Princeton alum but alum of a T 10 university so I can relate to this type of academic setting. I feel you have hit the nail on the head. To put some concrete evidence behind your perception especially in regard to the “new admission team” The admissions dean is new. Referring to my previous post in which she gave misinformation during a admitted students zoom meeting which resulted in our son choosing another t 10 school, we as a family were a bit dumb founded by the presentation itself. The presenters (Dean and assistant) attended this online zoom in what seemed like the most unprepared fashion. Dressed extremely casually, poor prep of info, not excitingly well spoken. All of that made our son turn to us and say " does anyone else think this is a poor showing on their part?" We agreed. He even raised a concern to himself if this new regime in admissions would lead to a bit of a slipping in Princeton’s overall perception and eventual rankings. Perhaps he is on to something?
Nevertheless, when I reached out to the dean and pointed out to her her misspoken words (which were later clarified) prompted to our son’s decline of Princeton, she took zero responsibility. Her answer was “the fact is your son declined our offer on May 1 and therefore there is no space for him input class” Never a mention of apology for perhaps playing a role in the process. No sense of owning anything. Only a pompousness the eluded a attitude of " how dare you decline our offer"
…Umm I don’t know maybe because he was accepted to 10 other T 20 institutions and they were more available to answer questions and provide accurate information.
Now please understand I admire Princeton and it’s students, all brilliant and hard-working. It’s the institution and specifically this admission office which has fumbled.
Lastly as a parent (full pay parent at $75k/yr) I question an institution, business, organization who can’t figure out how to quickly mobilize their workforce to work from home. It is 2020, call forwarding, internet connection, etc…is about as common as sliced bread.
Come on Princeton, let’s be honest…you want your students to be honest and responsible, then lead from the front, by example.
Unable to visit this year, I suppose many chose by published rankings and perceptions.
The Jig is up. Princeton doesn’t care how well-crafted your LOCI is or how heartfelt your interest is in attending. The waitlist is a soft-rejection – close but no cigar. They may take a token handful of students after no one the last couple of years, but this is Princeton and they don’t have to follow the herd. You need to move on with your life, and maybe your kid or sibling will get in (but probably not). To misquote the inimitable Joan Jett: Crimson and Clover – It’s Over.
I think that’s Tommy James and The Shondells ; )
Anyone know of the Class of 2024 Waitlist is officially closed?
@BRAZUSA they haven’t sent an email yet so i guess its still open.
No emails yet. Right?
Are they going to close the waitlist today?
They just announced they’d close the waitlist on July 20.
Does anyone know if there was any or much movement on the 2024 waitlist?
To lighten our mood, here is my fav SNL from a year ago:
You have to seriously consider whether having the Princeton name on your diploma outweighs the SJW rampaging fire that is burning through the faculty and administration like a California forest fire. President Eisgruber won’t even defend the free exchange of ideas anymore. Anything and anyone that challenges the new orthodoxy will be canceled at Princeton. It’s very sad what has happened to this institution.
90% California schools will be online unless infection improves. Will the rest of the country follow this approach as daily cases surpass 70,000?

Who else is excited to finally get a final decision tomorrow ahaha?
So are they rejecting everybody today? Where did they say that WL will be closed today? Link please?
I’m very excited.
Is WL closed?
With Covid-19 they probably accepted fewer students overall to de-densify. I got an email about the closure. Was anyone actually accepted after May 1?
When did they send the email?
