Princeton Class of 2025 -- Regular Decision

What’s the best way to update Princeton on new or significant awards, etc regarding my application? They have have a misc. box for optional supporting material (for upload) on the portal but I’m afraid that it may not be seen if my application has already gone through the review cycle once. Any insights or suggestion will be much appreciated!

Send an email to the office with a document showing your awards.

I just got the “Please expect an email or telephone call from…” my alumni interviewer email yesterday. I’m in southern WV so there’s not exactly a ton of Princeton alums here lol but there’s not typically many applicants either.

My D received an email yesterday afternoon regarding an in interview.

Part of the reason it’s taking so long for interviews to be scheduled and completed is that the number of applicants who need to be interviewed during the regular decision round is about a third higher than usual this year – and the number of volunteer interviewers is the same as before. In my part of the northeast, which has a high density of alumni, the local alumni committee just sent out another email message asking for people to volunteer to do extra interviews. In addition, the deadline for submitting interview reports to the admission office has been extended by a week.

hi has anyone gotten a likely letter yet?

I think LLs are usually issued in October and generally are for recruited athletes.

A handful are sent out from late Feb to mid March to non-athletes.

Got it for Yale.

Princeton’s timings are going to be different since they did not have EA this year.

Ideally, to compensate, they should send a lot more likely letters compared with last. few years.

To compensate for what? Not having SCEA?

Not gonna happen.

Way to much concern for Likely Letters. Most accepted applicants will not get one.

Well a likely letter is somewhat similar to an EA in the sense that it gives the receiver more time to evaluate the college. I’m sure Princeton wants to stay competitive from a Yield perspective and to compete for the best of the applicants. So out of the 1800 students they want, why should they not give a likely letter to say half of them (which is the usual EA number probably). The only reason they would not is if there is an Ivy League ‘understanding’ that schools can’t do more than 5-10% likely letters.

If they don’t do that, they would need to build up a large waitlist this year and get people off from that list.

At least thats what game theory would indicate.

All hypothetical of course.

Since SCEA is not binding, I doubt there’s will be much of a difference in yield. I think many select schools will use their waitlists more this year. But it is wishfully thinking that they will issue 900 likely letters. And your are double counting recruited athletes who would have been part of the SCEA pool and still received likelies.

This year the interval between notification of acceptance (April 6) and the deadline for replying (May 3) is shorter than usual for the Ivies, but it’s not a huge difference – less than a week. Isn’t 27 days sufficient for whatever evaluation you have in mind, or does it somehow require 32 days? Although the shorter interval isn’t ideal, I doubt it will be a meaningful impediment for many people (possible exception: folks who want to appeal their financial aid package), and certainly not grounds for sending out a bunch of likely letters.

When do the financial aid packages come out for the Ivies? If the decision day is Apr 6, do we know them at the same time?

Consider that :
(a) Most students have not been able to visit any colleges. (b) The other colleges that Princeton is competing with, have offered half their class EAs 4 months back.

Princeton had probably expected other Ivies to follow through and cancel their SCEAs but they did not. So the one way to neutralize the other colleges’ (HSYM) relative advantage is to issue likely letters.

Not that they’re listening to discussions on CC

Yes, financial aid packages are provided at the time of acceptance.

Does the midyear report show up in the application portal? It says that mine has been downloaded by Princeton on Common App, but it doesn’t appear in my portal. Just want to make sure that there’s not an issue with my portal/midyear grades!

Same here. It does not show on portal.
