no, the portal does not show the mid-year reports
Just a question I had. For IVY leagues and deferred schools like Georgia Tech, how much would a mid-year report matter? I had a borderline grade that didn’t go my way (89.4), so I ended up with a B in an AP Science class, as a STEM major. I have gotten 3 B’s before (2 in freshman and 1 in sophomore), but they were in the hardest classes in my school and I got straight A’s in my junior year. I have a 3.93 GPA as of now. How much would this ‘B’ hurt? I’m really too upset by it, but I just have that “what if I got 1 more MC Question right” feeling/regret.
I dont think it matters much. One test or grade is not criteria for admission.
What is your intended major? What course was the B in? When was the mid-year report sent to them?
Also, what courses were the other B’s in?
AP Chem as a CS Major. Sent on Feb 11.
Were the other B’s in important stem classes?
They were in Math, but I’m not really concerned about those. The class average in those classes was a C (it was like three years of math in 1), and my counselor noted that in the rec.
*not really to upset
I know I’ll get bashed, but for GT, since they admit by major, I think they will care about the chem grade a bit, although it’s not bad. Is there any way you can beg the teacher to reconsider that one little point? It’s worth a try.
For Princeton, I dunno. They don’t admit by major but they will still care about those B’s, even if someone wrote them explaining that those courses were difficult. Unfortunately, I’m not sure they’ll care that they were really hard. They get a lot of students who take difficult courses and breeze through them anyway. Just trying to be honest. With that said, I know that grades aren’t the entire deal. How were your essays?
I tried to ask for the point, but was unsuccessful. I felt like my essays were good, but it is what it is. Decisions come out in the next month (or so), so I guess I’ll just wait. I really should’ve gotten an A, just made some basic subtracting/adding mistakes on the last quiz, but it’s fine I guess. Thanks!
Don’t think it will make a difference to GT admission. They may have you do Chem in 1st year.
But if you want to, you can take the SAT Subject test in Chem or the AP Chem to counterweight that B.
This year is especially tough at GT compared to previous years. Numbers for out-of-state this year (from ED II) are comparable to an Ivy. RD will be worse.
The decision will already be out by the time this student takes one of those chem exams.
OP, if you don’t get in where you want this year, I’d start putting myself in transfer mode.
Hey, does anyone know when’s the latest we can send updates to colleges?
I’m likely publishing some work in major media/publishing a report and starting a new job next week, so I want to send updates, but I don’t know if it’s too late.
Thoughts?
Send it. You might get waitlisted and then they’ll have that new info.
Major? Like NBC, Time, or NYT? If it is not in national scale, I wouldn’t really update the AOs.
Send it. Anything that adds to your application is useful.
Where are you from btw
