getting deferred sucks, its tough to sugarcoat it
I got accepted!
I got straight up rejected. Canadian applicant here.
34ACT, 42 IB, 800 800 800 SAT Math 2, Bio M, Chemistry (single sitting). Very confused why I got rejected.
@DoggyLuver Wow I am confused also. Did not really think they rejected anyone early. Iâm sure you being an international applicant had something to do with it. Lack of ECs? My subject tests scores are much lower than yours but Iâd say my ECs are really strong so maybe that?
My brother got accepted! 1600 SAT superscore, 800 on a few subject tests, many 5s and one 4 on AP exams, Eagle Scout, lots of hours at his part time job, etc.
My DS was deferred. Somewhat expected, but still very tough. He was the first from his school to apply to any Ivy and it was a learning curve for all involved. 1560 SAT, 4.0 UW, solid ecs, URM.
Iâve seen some incredible students on this forum and whether you were accepted, deferred or rejected, you will succeed wherever you end up. Keep your chin up and keep submitting those apps.
Yes ECs are a slight weak point in my app. But not so weak that I thought it warranted a rejection. Martial arts Black Belt, 2 years military in Singapore, leadership positions in school clubs, motivational speaking to martial arts community, self-taught calligraphy to high level, self-taught physics A-Level during military (got A out of A star), a leadership conference, volunteer work and tons of peer tutoring. Maybe there was a red flag in my app that i was not aware of? Not sure.
My lil bro got rejected as well, which is pretty wild because I thought he was a great applicant 34ACT, 800 Sat subject tests, extremely strong ECs, research/internship summers etc. I think they rejected far more people than usual this year, there was a new dean of admissions so the policy likely changed. Honestly would make more sense than the one they used to have.
A lot of highly qualified students have been deferred or rejected today but they will all get in somewhere else and have a great college experience. Being an outstanding student was not what they want. You had a better chance if you came from an under represented state like South Dakota, or an under represented minority, or you are a hardship case that makes them look good, or you are on the âDeanâs Listâ which means a family member gave a lot of money to the school, or you are a recruited athlete. Interesting that PU boasts its diversity for its general population but not for its athletics. They are predominately white and wealthy. Who else can afford to play expensive sports like Fencing, Squash, Lacrosse, Ice Hockey, etc.
@DoggyLuver thatâs really weirdâŚI have the same predicted points, but my ACT is lower (31). And wow youâre ECâs are amazing!! I am also an international applicant, but I got deferred. Not the happiest with that outcome but ?ââď¸
@cycloid Mind sharing your stats?
I got in! 4.0, 1570, 800 (m2), 780 (lit). Started a nonprofit, started a national awareness campaign, wrote for the NYT and UNICEF, did research at an Ivy League.
Congrats to everyone who got in! Check out Princeton.edu/year1 for cool things to get started!
For those who got rejected Iâm so sorry if only there was a spot for every exceptional studentâŚbut is there any way you could send me a screenshot of your letter? I can drop my email: destinybloom08@gmail.com
I would really really appreciate it.
Iâm trying to understand if being deferred really means anythingâŚshould I have any hope?
I didnât realize they rejected people early.
@benandjerrys101 Honestly a deferral just means a slow reject. Donât waste your time. Youâre better off keeping up your grades so that your mid-year grade report wonât be a problem to your RD colleges. Take another day to feel sad if you want to.
@lazzaro I got deferred. Not unexpected, though.
@gRw110 Thanks, but I wonât give up hope that easily I know my chances are slim but that is not the kind of person I am. I will continue to apply to safeties and matches and other options but I will not quit until I need to.
Does anybody know if Princeton deferred a smaller percentage of applicants for SCEA this year compared to prior years. I heard that in prior years as many as 75-80% of the early applicants were deferred.
@River65 Unfortunately, we canât assume anything from a deferral. Usually, they only outright reject a very tiny percentage of early applicants for whatever reason (while some T20s like MIT reject more applicants than they defer). Most are deferred at Princeton so we have to take it with a grain of salt. Sad but true. I donât know the exact percentage this year though.
They also got a new dean, so significantly more people have been rejected this year. My college counselor spoke with their admissions office, and they described my application as in the head of the hunt. So, hopefully that means there is a chance for those of us that were deferred.
