I got my interview notification TODAY...I was so shocked since I submitted my application on October 31! I didn't expect the interview to come so quickly - I thought that I would have more time to, I don't know, wrap my head around the whole thing...

We are going to meet in a coffee shop and the interviewer seems pretty nice (on e-mail). Any suggestions? Do I need to wear/bring/prepare anything?

PS. Would the interviewer have already seen my application (ie. he/she already knows some information about me by having seen my profile/essays) or does he/she not know anything? I have heard that the interviewer should be familiarized with the candidate but since I submitted the application two days ago this seems improbable.

Just wondering, what general region do you live in? I submitted on Oct. 31 as well, and if you’re already getting an interview, I was wondering if maybe you lived in a place with a lot of Princeton alumni, or if I should be expecting one soon too.

@ Evazan I’m an international student living in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) in Ontario, Canada. I’m not certain but I don’t think there are actually too many alumni in this area - which is why I was shocked to be contacted this early on.

Timing is driven by how organized and/or busy the regional coordinators and actual interviewers are, and by supply/demand of interviewers in that area. I don’t think anyone should read anything into being contacted sooner vs. later.

You only need to bring something if the interviewer asks for it (like a resume or list of activities).

Relax and have a nice conversation, interviews play only a small role in admissions decisions for the vast majority of candidates IMHO.

Don’t worry about the interview. They really don’t count for much, and are pretty chill. Just wear something nice (like something you would wear to church, or your grandmother’s house, no need to get fancy) and bring a resume. Even if they don’t ask for one, it’ll be helpful for them when they do their writeup. Just don’t freakout; they’re not a big deal.

I haven’t yet been contacted. Should I be worried yet?

At what point should I start worrying and contact the admissions office to make sure that they didn’t somehow lose my application/forget to contact alumni?

Kameron: part of the notification (before the interviewer his or herself contacts you) says that in two weeks you should contact the head interviewer, and it gives you the name and email address of the person who will interview. Have you even received that yet? If not, you probably should be worried since it has been two weeks since you could have submitted your application. :/

I understand that they can’t interview anyone, but people from my school have gotten interviews in the past and I do hope they’ll make the effort. If I’m not given one, I wouldn’t take that as any indication to the strength of my application and I hope that’s not what you’re insinuating.

Either way, I want to make sure that it wasn’t simply a clerical error—they might very well have passed along the wrong email address or something. I don’t see how it hurts to check.

I want to second what T26 said. I conduct interviews for Princeton although I have to take this year off because my son is in the applicant pool. I know for a fact that due to the short time frame allowed for these interviews with the new EA deadline, they are having trouble finding interviewers in some areas. In fact, my son has not been contacted yet either. I’m not worried.

Call admissions if you would like, but they will probably tell you the exact same thing. It really and truly does not matter whether or not you have an interview.

ugh!!! my application was complete Oct 25. I see nothing on the application tracker giving information about a head interviewer, etc… I did end up calling the admissions office where they said not to worry about it…based on alum in the area (we live in north FL, so I would think some alum are here)…and that b/c of the fast turnaround with scea, it may not happen. But still…really would like the chance to interview. Does it REALLY make no difference come decision time???
