Princeton, MIT, CMU, Cornell etc...

Hey everyone! So I know that you never really know with the top schools, but I was hoping some of you can chance me anyways. So I'm looking at CS or Engineering as a major. As of now my top schools are...
1)CMU
2)MIT
3)Princeton
4)Cornell
5)Yale

This will probably change as I visit more and get a better feel for each college.

But anyways..

SAT: 770 M, 720 R, 660 W, (2150) (2 sittings)
SAT2: 780 M2, 760 Physics

ACT: will take soon - hoping to do better than SAT

GPA: 4.0 (99.4)

Main extracurriculars:
1)Varsity Golf (captain)
2)Varsity Tennis
3)Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (6th year - states every year)
4) Miscellaneous math stuff (AMC etc..)

Work:
1) Ski Instructor (2yrs - 15hr/wk)
2) Golf course (1yr - 30hr/wk)

Classes:
Skipped a year of math in 10th grade.

Junior:
AP calc BC and AB (5:5)
AP US history (3 - will not submit)
Honors Physics
Honors English
Spanish 4
Advanced Java
Gym

Senior: (*even though its not offered at my school.. I talked to guidance and I got them to teach it for me as an independent study type thing)

Internship in advanced mathematics*
C++*
AP Physics
AP Spanish
AP Java
AP English

Hooks: Not only did I take all the hardest classes at my school, but I figured out how to take more advanced ones not offered.

Recs should be good.
1) Guidance counselor who is also my golf coach. Likes me and has known me since freshman year
2) AP Calc teacher and Advisor for the internship in adv. math.
3) AP and Advanced java teacher. Likes me, has known me since sophomore.

As of now no essay, but hopefully a decent to good one.

So that's pretty much it. If I left out something out, let me know.

Thanks guys!

Cornell seems like a good match for you. You definitely have academics under your belt, but your volunteering is a little weak. Have you taken your passion for engineering and mathematics outside of the classroom setting? That would make you unique, which is what colleges like… Your SAT II scores are strong, try to improve SAT or ACT, that would help a lot. Right now schools like MIT and Princeton are high reaches for you, but you are well rounded in terms of school and sports so that might help you. You have a strong resume, so you will do well where ever you go
Please chance me back! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1539501-pleasee-chance-me-will-chance-you-back.html</a></p>

CMU-low reach
MIT-reach/high reach
Princeton-reach/high reach
Cornell-reach
Yale-reach/ high reach

If you test scores were slightly higher, the high reaches would become reaches, like they are for everyone.

I agree that Cornell would be a good match for you.

Thanks for the responses! I did a 100 hours of volunteer in the summer prior to 9th grade. Should I put this down? Or is it too early? I am going to try and do some more.

Anything prior to 9th grade won’t be considered. Good luck getting into these schools! You’re a strong candidate.

Getting that SAT up to 2200+ (or preferably 2250+) would be quite the game changer…

I’d say you have little to no shot at YPM with a 2150, but if you get that up then you’d become a qualified crap shoot just like the rest of applicants. Good luck!

^^ what cakebatter said, although I’d say at least 2300.

Thanks for the responses and advice! I’m gonna try and get 33-34 on the ACT this fall. Hopefully that would help

Is your GPA weighted or non weighted?
