I'm not sure if this matters, but I'm applying for engineering to all of these schools (CMU I'm applying to the school of computer science and the school of engineering). Also I was deferred MIT EA, I brought up my SAT's by 130 points since then.

SAT II: 790 Math II, 750 Physics

Thanks! Feel free to post a link to yours and ill try to chance you back!

Good chance, but as usual, it’s a crapshoot. It will probably come down to your essays; your ECs, test scores and GPA are good, but will not help distinguish you very much (except for the Six Flags thing - I kinda went like ‘ooh’ over there).

I should probably clarify my ECs a bit (although I don’t know how much of a difference it will make). For a bunch of theatre and choral stuff, one of my main activities is directing a selective choral group at my school. I teach the music, accompany them on piano, sing with them (when a cappella), and even arrange music when necessary.

Also, i guess i should list this as an EC. I run a little eBay computer business. I buy cheap computers and fix/upgrade them and then sell it for a profit. I wrote my commonapp short answer about it.

do either of those things strengthen my ECs a bit?

Sorry to double post but I can’t edit posts on my iPhone. The above statement was regarding your Ecs and other things. Your SAT and SAT2s are both very good.So you have a fair chance at cmu, Cornell and Columbia

astroblue, i mean i guess i haven’t cured cancer or anything astounding like that but i also have trouble believing that many students have. i’ve done everything offered to me in my school/area, but i guess i see what your saying. also, i’d like to think my essays are what will allow me to stand out, but who knows? thanks tho.

ctodd, really? you think i have a better shot at princeton then columbia? also, i’m assuming you meant harvard instead of cornell as a slight reach? Thanks though, i hope you’re right =]

MIT: high reach (it really is for anyone)
Princeton: high reach (again, extremely selective as is MIT)
Penn: high match/low reach
Columbia: low/mid reach
Harvard: mid reach
Cornell: match/high match
CMU: low match

i think youll get in to cmu, cornell, and penn for sure. it just all depends with the other ones. im calling mit and princeton high reaches because theyre SO selective with their student body it really just depends. with you, your application seems pretty much almost as good as anyone elses, except youll probably have less APs going into college than most other applying, but other than that youve got a great application

you may want to consider the following schools too:
UChicago
Stanford
UVa
William and Mary

Wow, you’ve got amazing objective stats. Really solid application, by the looks of it I’m just a bit worried about your essays-I’m not saying they’re not good, no, I bet they’re amazing-it’s just that the topics are unoriginal. I’ve been playing piano since I was 4, too, but I didn’t write about it because I thought too many other people were going to, and then mine won’t stand out anymore. That being said, if they’re good essays, they’re good essays.

I think you have a great shot at each school.

MIT - reach
Princeton - low/mid reach
Penn - low reach
Columbia - reach
Harvard - mid/high reach
Cornell - high match
CMU - low match

Your SAT is great, Rank is great, ECs are ok, awards probably below average (could be more things related to your major). But I definately think you’ll get into a couple of those schools.

MIT: mid/high reach (for everyone, but I think you’ve got a good shot here)
Princeton: mid reach
Penn: match/in
Columbia: mid/low reach
Harvard: mid/high reach
Cornell: in
CMU: in

Taking a wild guess:
In at CMU, Cornell, and Princeton.
