Hi, I recently received an invitation to attend the Multicultural Open House at Princeton going on in mid-September. The event is mostly a campus tour and Q & A session so it doesn't seem particularly unique but I was wondering how significant this invitation actually is. I haven't signed up to receive any information from Princeton so the letter really came out of nowhere for me. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Because of some high performance on PSAT or PLAN test or some other indicator, Princeton wants to court you, hopefully to get you to apply. What you’ll actually have in your application is unknown at this time. It’s not an indication of improved chances of admit per se. No one knows at this point.

But it’s part of a greater marketing plan by Princeton (and most colleges practice this in some form or fashion) to get likely applicants to consider them. The pool of well-qualified URM applicants is much smaller and the desire to court them is higher.

You’ll be inundated w/all sorts of invites to open houses/info sessions in the months to come.

If they are paying for travel, you should definitely go.

Thanks for the reply @T26E4. @texaspg I live relatively nearby Princeton so travel isn’t an issue.

Ok. I consider the schools offering to pay for the travel as indicator of their interest in you.
