Is the Princeton Review Academic Rating of a school an indication of how difficult it is once you are there or is it more akin to the USN&WR Peer Assessment numbers. I have read the description and am still unsure. For example, Lehigh has a selectivity rating of 97, but an academic rating much lower whereas UVA has a selectivity rating of 97 and an academic rating of a 98. Any thought would be much appreciated. I am aware of the limitations of both sources.

I think its how the students who participated in the survey perceive the quality of education they are receiving. I wouldn't take it too seriously, I think UVa had an academic rating under 90 a couple years ago.

Thanks. I was just curious whether it means kids at UVA may be breaking their backs while kids at Lehigh may be skating by. The only school I ever heard of as being in a league of its own regarding workload was Swarthmore. Any other thoughts are welcome.

ah, Swat the IB on steroids of the college world.

Actually, I have heard its not as bad as a lot of people make it seem

Princeton has a reputation for being tough, with no grade inflation.

they are talking about the princeton review. This has no affiliation with Princeton university.

I was referring to Princeton University as my response to john's question.

gotcha :)

for what its worth, I don't think princeton could hold a candle to the workload at Swat.

i think the swarthmore workload thing is overrated. the fact is their average GPA is around the same as at UVa. People like to think they're special, and for some reason swarthmore combined its reputation of a really good school and its reputation of being an incredibly geeky and nerdy school into it being an incredibly difficult school.

Having grown up in that neck of the woods, I agree with you jags. The stats to get in are pretty killer, but I have never heard the curriculum is all that tough. Plenty of touchy feely crap that doesn't help land a job at the end of four years.

If gainful employment is a students end game UVa is head and shoulders above Swarthmore.

BTW, is there any truth to the rumor that Wake Forest is truly "Work Forest"?
