@FiveFactorial I’ll go watch it. It seems pretty awesome.
Regarding deferred acceptance rates, I’ve heard that a good rule of thumb is that the deferral rate is equal to or slightly above the normal acceptance rate for the school. So therefore the acceptance rate be around 6-8% for deferred students.
Last year, 3850 students applied; every year, Princeton defers 78-79% of its applicants to the regular round. Thus, last year about (.78)(3850) or 3000 students were deferred. Around 6-8% of the deferrees were re-accepted during RD, so the number of acceptances should range from 180-240 deferred students during the regular round.
However, more people applied to Princeton early this year, so that percentage should go down. If Princeton accepts between 180 and 240 deferred students on Thursday, the deferred acceptance rate should be between 180/3300 or 5.5% and 240/3300 or 7.3%.
So yeah, the rate should be between 5.5% and 7.3% for deferred students. This is just an estimate, so I can’t guarantee that this is 100% true. It’s not too great, but it’s still better than the RD acceptance rate of 5.4%.
Also, just as a comparison, Harvard does release their deferral acceptance rate… it’s 2.3%. Princeton doesn’t release this information, so hopefully it isn’t as bad.
ahh, even though i know it’s crazy, i still can’t help getting my hopes up for this thursday. whenever i see @azwu331 or someone else do statistics posts, i always think, “what a crazy low number. i could never be good enough,” and then immediately follow that thought with, “but man, i really really really hope i can be one of those deferrals that turn into acceptances.” (hopefully, y’all do this, too, and i’m not alone lol). march 31st is coming up! how are you all handling the wait?
@eyesight2020 Haha, you’re not alone! We all feel that way… I like to call it “hopelessly hoping.”
I’m trying to keep my mind off of Ivy Day as of now. My decision has already been made, so there’s really nothing I can do about it anymore. Hopefully we all get in!
Well, in only two days this very long wait will come to an end. @-)
Princeton’s application volume jumped 7.4% this year to 29,313. Preliminary estimate of the RD acceptance rate is around 3.89%. Deferred acceptance rate should then be around 4-5%.
Well, it was nice knowing you guys. Good luck to everyone tomorrow!
:’) What a journey this has been.
Tomorrow is actually going to be one of the most annoying days of my life lol
I’m officially going into CC hibernation right now, just so I can keep Princeton out of my mind tomorrow. But before I do, I just want to make one last comment with this wonderful community. It’s been such a long time, and I still cannot believe that it’ll end tomorrow, but I felt it would be appropriate today to post the comment I made back on the SCEA thread in December (although slightly edited for RD). Good luck to everyone, and I truly hope that I can have the opportunity to meet some of you guys in New Jersey next fall!

@azwu331, I sincerely hope you get an acceptance tomorrow. One of the best things I’ve ever read on this site. Thanks for that.
Long live the chicken! ~:>
Good luck everyone. You are all talented individuals, and will be successful no matter where you go. Everyone probably already knows about the studies that show that students who apply to ivys are as successful as those getting in. So remember, regardless of what happens, that everything will be fine. I hope we all get in

Rejected from Princeton!
I agree with all of the above posters. It’s been quite the journey, and I’ve been lucky to get to know all of ya’ll and your talents and ambitions and humor. You are all great and fantastic people, and I truly believe that you guys will thrive.
For the future deferred Princetonians, I’ve got some hope for ya’ll: After being rejected from Pton and waitlisted at Rice and UChicago, Penn, Columbia, and Pomona decided they liked me. You never know what will come in the end, but I assure you that you will find where you’re supposed to be.
I was rejected too I was waitlisted at Vanderbilt & Georgetown and was accepted to Washington Univ. in St. Louis and Notre Dame. Notre Dame is my top choice right now because I got into the Mendoza business school at ND. I hope everyone else on here is accepted to a good school and everyone here is amazing just for applying to Princeton and being deferred
