Good luck @mprut0987! I can only imagine the horrors of IB… :-SS
@mprut0987 I stg I’ve put in more hours on CC than my EE and my IAs combined…
@sugar98 I’m going through this slump also where I don’t want to work (since I’m so close to the end) even though I have to. I think I saw this picture/quote somewhere that was like “you’re not studying for a test, you’re studying to save a patient, or defend innocent people,” etc., etc. Something that also makes daunting tasks a little easier is breaking them down into smaller tasks. I used to have a checklist thing with tasks and subtasks (oh younger, more organized me) and it was satisfying to check everything down.
And don’t worry about having some free time! Free time is such a weird concept to high school students, but, like you said, it’s senior year, so just enjoy what you have left — you’ve worked hard enough already.
btw, I think it’s a cool idea to have a inspiration thread bc I am running low rn
@memelover don’t worry I have given up on writing my EE and it’s only at 3000 words. Can’t wait to just be accepted to college already!!
Hey! Just wanted to stop by and root for you guys! I’m pumped to meet our new pre-frosh! Best of luck to all of you and I hope to see you on campus soon!
if I get in I’m so totally done. no more apps. Pton’s my number one!! I am currently working on penn and duke though… Hopefully I won’t have to send them in but who knows
since we’re on the topic of RD… what are most people’s “middle tier more likely to be accepted (than like crazy HYP) and happy to go” schools? For example Carnegie Mellon…? Georgetown and Rice but they err on the harder to get in. Other than pton I still really need a definite list of schools. Hoping to stay in the northeast, duke and rice being the only exceptions.
My D applied SCEA and just received an email yesterday for an interview (Skype). Interview is scheduled for next weekend. I spent the last few hours reading through this entire feed and I don’t know what to think about this late request for an interview. I saw an earlier post that said the interview reports were due on Dec. 2. If decisions are speculated to be release next Monday, than an interview next Sunday seems odd.
Also, I did not submit any financial information and did not receive an email requesting it.
Any thoughts?
@kcarpenterfan Cornell, CMU, and Michigan are my prime schools in the 15-30% range. Not that I’d really call these “middle tier” by any means, but they’re not as selective as other schools I’m applying to. Cornell is actually competing for my #2 choice after Princeton (tied with MIT for now) even though I’m applying to some other more selective schools.
@Pburgmom I also did not receive that financial doc info, just FYI. But S did not check the box on the app for financial aid, so I was assuming that was the reason.
@CautiousOptimist yes, not as selective was what I meant by middle tier - maybe I should ave stuck with “second tier” haha. My problem is that my list is 70% way too selective, 25% state school/safety schools, and just 5% realistic. Good luck to you! Cornell is also on my list but I’m hoping any news on the 14th or whenever it will be will let me keep any future apps stowed away…
@kcarpenterfan Probably UVA, Vanderbilt, and Washington University in St. Louis for me.
I’d be happy to go to those schools, and they’re more in the middle tier.
@Pburgmom I think the late interview request seems to underscore the point that the interview isn’t really used for admission purposes in any serious way - it’s truly a way for Pton to promote the brand and get the word out about the university and less about “vetting” new students.
Regarding financial aid, you wouldn’t have gotten the email unless you filed a financial aid document with Pton, and then forgotten to submit your tax return. If you didn’t file for financial aid, then there was no need to send you an email about your tax returns.
Ugh, my extended essay is due Friday and I don’t have any citations done. And then my world lit paper is due the following week, along with two IAs. IB is a struggle. 8-X
Thanks @squeakywheel & @pantherlair. Makes sense to me.
Best of luck to everyone on this thread
My more “realistic” schools (aka I actually have a decent chance of being admitted, not luck of the draw lol) are RPI, Villanova, and Notre Dame! I know I’m in at RPI though, because I’ve been in contact with the coach! Good luck this week everyone!
My son’s college class is over (just waiting for his term paper to be graded) & this week he’s going to make a push to finish his scholarship & college applications. Every one has 1-4 essays. Then it’s a 2-3 week much needed & promised break where he & I will finish marathoning Code Geass & Attack on Titan. After that, then it’s back to his regular heavy course load & finishing up his senior year.
@Pburgmom That’s really weird, since my interviewer said repeatedly the last day for the alumni to send in reports was Dec 4, last Friday. It seems odd that your daughter has an interview scheduled for next Sunday… Conversely, it could be good news since your daughter might still be in the running and might be one of the last few kids to be accepted.
I remember reading that there was a kid last year who had an interview scheduled after he got accepted… I guess that shows how the interview is probably meant to increase yield and answer questions more than to be used as an actual admissions criterion.
@Mel1997 maybe if you can combine your 3,000-word EE with my 1,000-word EE we can have a complete EE?
@ALibertarian praying 4 you rn. We can all have a prayer circle in hell.
I applied to UF, FSU, and Pitt early (I’ve already been accepted to Pitt, and FSU decisions come out in three days!), and as for RD schools, I’m definitely applying to Wellesley and Vassar. I would be happy at any of the schools I apply to, as long as I get that $$$$$$$$$$$$
Can anyone confirm that decisions come out on the 14th? So anxious that I can’t bring myself to work on other apps haha
