lul ib people… anyone else in an engineering academy :p. My senior thesis has to be a product of sorts that institutes the proper guidelines of good design and applicability. Engineering is fun
@TheMak0 Is urs PLTW too?
@memelover - my DS also heard back from Pitt, got a full tuition scholarship but no invite to apply for the “full ride” scholarship. I hope that portends exactly nothing bad for any other admissions decisions. I’m also wondering what they looked for to give that invitation but who knows! UF was on the list if Pitt did not come back positive, but now is not on the list for us. He also applied to UMA, UMI, UMD. He will apply mostly to additional “reach” schools. There won’t be any middle-of-pack private schools for him; he figures either “reach” or large public for the kind of research he has in mind, I guess…?
@prakulsur yep, its funny because I declined to go to one of the top ib schools in the nation to go there. No regrets lol.
anyone here go to phillips exeter?
While waiting for this Princeton decision, I was wondering if I should send my scores to my RD schools right now or wait till 12/14 and send only if I get deferred. Do you think ACT and sat2 scores will be sent by 1/1/16 if I request them on 12/14?
@fretfulmother Congrats to your son! I think it reflects nothing on how your son will do on other apps, since every college looks for different things in different people; plus, the Chancellor’s has probably increased in selectivity because more and more exceptional students are noticing and applying to Pitt. Even though UF is a great school, I’d probably choose Pitt (if I got enough financial aid) over it too.
I also am kind of going along with his reasoning — other than Wellesley, Vassar, and my state schools, I’ll be applying to mostly large reaches (which they will be I’m still deciding, lol).
@ivyyhopes I would do a little research on each of your RD colleges to see how flexible they are with test scores arriving late. Some colleges (like Princeton, for one), are okay with test scores arriving 1-2 weeks late, while others (I think UT-Austin disqualifies applicants from guaranteed admission consideration) will be rather strict w/ the deadline. Test scores usually take 1-2 weeks to arrive/be processed at a university.
@memelover also in that IB boat… its a rough life my math and chem IAs are both due Friday :((
I also applied to UF! Who knows, we may end up meeting someday
ps if anyone ever makes that motivation thread I am 1000% down to join. need a lil motivation in my life from all yall crazy talented folks
@morrisk Holy moly my math IA is also due Friday and I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing. What is STEM tbh?
@memelover I can write an IA about College Confidential
@sugar98 Thank you! Good luck in your applications too
IB is scary especially in the senior year, but everything will be over soon… That’s what I’ve been telling myself for the past few months ;___;
@mprut0987 @sugar98 @memelover @morrisk @fretfulmother @ivyyhopes @prakulsur @TheMak0 how did you guys spend your summer before senior year?
@MariaScott Personally, I worked at the library as well as continuing my volunteer work. I designed, hosted, and ran two separate summer camps for elementary / middle school students interested in robotics. In addition, I coached 3 robotics teams during the end of summer. Also I took 2 AP classes online cause why the hell not.
Hey everyone! Hope you’re all doing well in the final days before the decisions come out… Do we know exactly when that day is, though? I’ve heard rumors of the 14th, but nothing seems confirmed yet. It’s a bit worrying, especially since pretty much all the other Ivies have dates and times set already.
@memelover STEM - science technology engineering math
@Almondjoy7 There hasn’t been any confirmation of any date yet. This makes me fear that decisions may be released later than normal this year, probably due to the 10% increase in applicants. Either that or Princeton is just holding everything back from us for some reason; by this time last year, the release date was already out.
If Princeton continues its tradition of releasing the Monday the week of the 15th, then the release date should be the 14th. However, a later release this year would not be totally surprising.
@memelover I believe in you!!! You’re a comp lit person, right? I absolutely love english and at least want to do a certificate in it (although im pretty set on astronomy major)… The one drawback about Princeton for me is the lack of double majors but I love the certificate program!
@MariaScott I worked in an astronomy lab at my state university and wrote a siemens paper ~:>
Not sure if that would be any help to my app but it sure was an awesome experience!
it seems like princeton would delay their admission, but on IvyWise, which posts early action/decision dates for all colleges every year, it says that Harvard, Yale, MIT, and a bunch of other universities still havent decided their admission dates. The ones who have are mostly on December 10,11 and 15, so I think ur guys prediction for the 14th is very likely to be true.
I got the PFAA email twice in few days. Any idea what this might mean?
